Here's an amusing -- but nonetheless serious -- article about an Agriculture Department rule that technically requires magicians who use animals to have permit and file a "disaster plan" explaining how their bunny will be cared for in the event of floor, fire, etc. The regulations were designed for businesses that exhibit animals, such as circuses and zoos, but they have since been broadened to the point where they now cover a children's performer with a bunny. Nearly three years ago Agriculture Department regulators were directed to carve out an exemption for magicians and similar acts, but government moves slowly and the rules still haven't been changed.
