Bonjour my spooky mates,
Today is the longest day of the year with the summer solstice in Sydney (the shortest day for most of you in the northern hemisphere) It is also that time of year again to review and think of your different bizarre purchase in 2016. It is a good way to flag great creation for people who may have miss out the information. It is also a way to thanks the creator of fantastic effects. Last year winner (2015) was Prof BC with Spectre. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rt=30#21 To be fair let's have simple rules: - select your best 5 bizarre purchases of 2016, write the effect and the name of the creator for each (please submit up to 5 entries) - I will make the tally and count the votes at the end of January (result 1st February) to give you time to vote and to allow you to use and review your latest purchase of 2016. |

Question: is this "items we purchased in 2016" or "items we purchased that were released in 2016?"

1. The Resurrection Cemetery Gate Key (Prof BC)
2. Masonic Switchbox (Marc Charisse) 3. 3 Wishes (Prof BC) The Prof BC Items really soin my imagination. The Key is realy great and starts the imagination of the kits so much. I love the fact that you can let them handle it before you perform anything and it makes them react so much when it suddenly turns in their hand. The Switchbox is incredibly well made (just like the slates). I use it for Inferno. 3 Wishes brought me into coins. I carry one at all times now and started to learn some basic slights (bobo). But other than my other items for the kids I can not let them find it and ask questions before to get things started. I keep thinking about how to solve this (see my okito box question) but up to now I did not find anything that fits the fairy tales. |

Pearls of the Passed - Comes with a genuinely spooky story to tell that a Google search would totally corroborate. Or you could invent your own. Either way, this effect in combination with a good story is very powerful.
Spirit Glass - So simple yet so effective. In the right context, terrifying. Most Haunted House in England - One of Prof BC's most underground effects that requires DIY effort on behalf of the performer. However, massive payoff for the effort. One of my most favorite purchases.

I only made one bizarre purchase this year:
Prof. BC's "Resurrection Cemetery Gate Key." It is the first commercially produced Haunted Key that looks and feels "just right." This, along with "Down the Hatch," is an unbeatable combo.

Spectre won last year? That is wonderful news! I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't know. Thank you, most sincerely. Is there a trophy? We need a trophy. May I make a trophy for the winner this year? Who's in charge? Somebody tell me that I may make the trophy this year! What should we call it? I plump for the Maskelyne Award (for my money, the greatest magical inventor of the modern age). What do you think? hum? hummm? Trophy? Yes? Maskelyne Award? Well? Well?
But on to business. . . My votes (in no particular order): Vade Retro Satana (Gemini Artifacts) Krampusnacht (Lebanon Circle Magic) The Unrest (Gemini Artifacts) The Roxanne Effect (Brynmore) ESPoe (Perkins) I am LOOKING FORWARD to Fathoms (Gemini) and Oraculum (Bobby Hasbun) in 2017! We need a trophy, or did I say that already? Well, we do. Could I make it? Happy Christmas/Hanukkah! BC
