Hi blurry,
This routine is not on his L and L DVDs. As I recall, he did this about a year back as a demonstration of misdirection. He posted the link here. Do a search and you will find the thread with Mr. Schneider's thoughs behind the video. I think he posted it as more of an exercise than an actual routine. I'm glad you found that video. It's one of my favorites of his. Jim

It does make one want to read his books rather than just watch videos.

Many schools are finding that sequential imaging like a cartoon is a more effective way of learning than a full video.
I expect some magic effects descriptions might go this route to satisfy people who cannot learn for the written word easily, but are turned into clones by video emulation. Mark Wilson's famous book sorta uses this approach with "what the audience sees and what the magician sees step photos.

I'm sure I've seen it taught on a video, but I can't locate it at the moment. I'll try to dig it up.

Hi
Got ill over Christmas, got bored, and stopped by for a look. This routine is explained in detail in one of my recent books for sale on amazon dot com. Do a search there for Al Schneider Magic. The book is: "The Theory and Practice of False Transfers" Thanks all. Al

OMG was an attempt to have a single cup routine with no body loads for the finish.
The little cup routine was an attempt to illustrate some of my principles. OMG was standard cup and ball moves but had the no body load idea. It was to be done standing by a table. It is part of a L&L DVD. The little cup routine turned out to be very effective. It is on Youtube and in the book “The Theory and Practice of False Transfers.” My point is that these two routines are a continuation of a life long effort at a very good cup and ball routine. This effort continues and yields a routine I call Carnival Cup. Props are bag, three small balls of different color, and the biggie. It is a one cup routine walk around and can be done without a table. It appears like the little cup routine (without the table). Goals include a no set up philosophy. Pick up the bag and go. Auto reset. Another goal was to have a routine that would be just as effective at repeating it for the same audience immediately and still sell well. It seems to accomplish those ends. I have had it for about a year now. The IBM club (19) is inviting me to do a lecture. I will introduce it there and hopefully will make a video of it for eventual sale. The lecture is titled, “Bleeding Edge Magic.” The lecture contains really new stuff that is very odd in construction. Part of my plan is to introduce stuff I don’t know if it will fool anyone. I need help from other people. Thanks for your interest. Al

Glad you're feeling better, Mr. Schneider.
Thanks for clarifying about your one cup routine. I need to verify my information before jumping in and passing it along. (red faced) Jim

I actually bought the false transfers book for this routine.
For people who are used to a 2-page description of the moves needed for a trick and a book of 100 pages having at least 25 tricks, there may be some initial disappointment if you get this book. If, however, you want to have at least a text transcription of what Al Schneider would tell you over the phone as he instructs you for a few hours in how to do the false transfers right, that's what this book is. Very limited scope, but thorough treatment of that scope. I am not disappointed in it at all because it is something I needed (and still do, to be honest - haven't taken the lessons on board enough yet...). As with any C&B routine, there are limitations, here, as well. It is done seated. If you are okay with that, you could actually use this routine as a performance routine. There are compromises that could be employed standing. The basic routine in the video is so lovely because it is completely uncluttered. One cup, three balls, they go to the cup one at a time, then vanish and there's a big ball in the cup. I think what I truly love about watching Al Schneider perform (only seen videos, thus far, but I suspect he'd be similar in life) is that he seems like such a regular guy. Instead of the on stage performance character (which can be and often is wonderful and fun, don't get me wrong), we get the guy from the next office over who says "this is sort of odd - I put three balls into my hand one shows up under this cup." But the moves don't look like moves, so it is more magical than wands and flourishes, though substantially more low-key. I sort of feel like I've met Al a lot of times, if that makes sense. A pleasure to be reminded of this video. I'd absolutely love to see the new routine you describe, Al. -Patrick |

I bought the book 2 years ago from Amazon, inexpensive for the content it has. I bought it for 2 things 1) The one cup routine, which is very nice and very well explained and 2) because of a lengthy discussion here at the Café on false puts, transfers and so on and I wanted to learn more.
This book is a small bible on false transfers, caveat: It is tedious, Schneider method of repetition from a real transfer to false transfer is heavy, so you must be willing to devote a lot of time for practice. I did not, but still I am better that when I started. As a final point, it was a nice surprise that the book has a lot about how Schneider understand magic (theory) ex.: Intention of reality, intention of magic, independent if you totally agree with his theory, there is a lot of value to gain from reading the chapters. Net, very good buy, several routines (the one with the cone is excellent), explanation of a core coin sleight and theory of magic in 285 pages medium format book for $25 |

Mr. Schneider,
I have your "the al scheider technique" videos but I also just bought the Al.Schneider.pdf from L and L as I am going on vacation and I prefer a book to study and enjoy versus DVD. Regards and good health from a old timer student |
