Simon,
The Paper Rose gets more Ooos and Ahhs than folks know. I use it for tips at for waitresses when we go out and it is a winner for stewardesses on airlines too! Thanks for showing me the way in your book and the video. I have also found that sometimes there might be a different color napkin laying around and I can add that piece to make the flower and get a different color...anyways, I just wanted to say thanks! cheers JR Fly Navy |

Glad you are getting good mileage out of it. As you know I consider it so strong that it will often be my closer for a close-up or walk around set and second to closer in my stand up set! In fact the other night at the NYU Aces of Magic show (where I was a special guest performer) I closed my stand up set with the rose!

Mr. Lovell,
But what of floating the rose, or transforming it as others elect to do????????????????????? |

Is this a trick or is it just an origami type of thing?

I believe, in response to the floating/transforming the rose thing, Simon begged us that if we are going to do it, not to do either. He said that we had created a piece of art, and then by doing either of the above we were turning it into a cheap trick. I completley agree, and yes Simon, some people do read those intros to your books!
In fact, those are some of my fav parts... Thanks for all of the wonderful lessons.

Here's a nice twist for you guys...
Get some Rose Oil. (It is expensive but it IS worth it as it goes a long ways). Put just a dab on your fingers before you make the paper rose. When you hand it to the person. Prompt them to smell it. It will smell just like a rose. I get a very strong reaction!

Yea...I really ahve to agree with Simon on the not-floating-the-rose thing. It's kinda like giving someone a puppy, then chopping its head off. Almost.

I never float it or change it for the reasons others have said.
A few others do the oil thing but, as part of my presentation, I make a nice joke about why it doesn't have a scent but if you hold it up to your ear you can hear the sea etc! It's a great idea though and could really work fantastically withthe right presentation! |
