For years, I have carried a stacked deck, but it it is less than half the deck, so this is not a precise response to the question.

My deck is stacked for what I believe are the two most entertaining effects in card magic:
(1) Color Monte - I do a version invented by Ron Zollweg (aka Ron Frederick) using ordinary cards
(2) Further than That - Stewart James

These effects usually end up as the 2nd and 4th tricks I perform. I do some effects with the non-stacked cards for my 1st and 3rd effects.

If someone asks to shuffle the deck, I let them and do something else instead. But that rarely happens.

I often carry a deck set up for Card Warp. The patter theme motivates the use of a different deck.

Aside from the stack which you know, I guess it would fall more into gimmicked decks.

For me,

Any of the Card-Shark items from Joshua Jay.

Personally my Modern Triumph I carry around, the 2nd version is being put together now for release.

One of the things my friend Danny T did was construct routines together and then made a stack out of it..So after each effect the 4-10 cards used go under the deck and the next small packet of cards is ready to go..A very cool idea and good management.

Also Multitude from Vincent Hedan is brilliant, is easily made and you can do many effects with it..Not just teh 16 he teaches because people like Pit Hartling, Tamariz and Weber have routines using the principle.

Hope this helps,

Six

I once did Justin millers X marks the spot for a bunch of co-workers at a lunch. That was geez... 10 years ago. One of the guys still brings it up when I talk to him. Better yet, the effect has been exaggerated over the years.

Josh Jay's Prism routine is ALWAYS in my case, and is the only gaffed deck that I carry to every gig.

It's a one trick deck, but I often carry Max Maven's Sventalism. I have also used Mark Mason's Exact.

McDonald's Aces.
For me I need it to be in a separate deck because if not I will never ring in the gaffs.

My "every day carry" deck is a deck stacked in mnemonica with two duplicates on top. I can go right into T&R, a trick that requires a stack, or something else that destroys the stack. The flexibility is nice. If I'm actually using the stack, it's for one of:

- Asi Wind's AACAAN
- Ortiz's Card Sense
- Mnemonicosis (from Tamariz's Mnemonica)
- The "pick 5 cards and then I'll divine what they are" trick that David Blaine did on Jimmy Fallon and in that Cambridge Union video. I have no idea what this trick is called or who came up with it, but I worked out a handling of it that I *really* like. It's one of the strongest things I do

If I'm going to do T&R, I'll do that first, which uses the dupes. If I'm not going to use them, I'll "remove the jokers" and really just ditch the dupes.

I agree, that trick is a killer. Probably the best reactions of any trick I do...

Second trosts intuition and worker bees by aronson.

I've started carrying around a deck in Stebbins and a deck in Osterlind. I do a couple of tricks with the Stebbins deck and then blow up the stack to do sleight tricks with (since it's so easy to get back into stebbins when I go home) and use the Osterlind deck for some mentalism effects. Best thing about Osterlind is you can have the spec inspect it and they won't see the stack unless they already know Osterlind.

I know these aren't trick decks, but stacks are kind of trick decks, right? Smile

Colossal Blizzard 2.0 by Anthony Miller has always been worth the lost pocket space for me. With the right presentation, that trick can be killer.

Before I got CB 2.0, I always opened my walk-around set with a Nudist Deck which is another effect I'm willing to carry an extra deck for.

Also, I know most magicians hate using an invisible or Svengali deck but we should all suck up our pride sometimes because they're still ridiculously strong pieces of magic for laymen.

Love this routine. I did read somewhere that this comes with bridge sized cards instead of poker sized cards - is that true?

I think the bridge size came as a bonus when you ordered Lennart Green's Masterfile DVD's from penguin(at least that's how I got mine). I've purchased 2 Stolen Card Decks since then and both were poker size.

many, but it depends on what you are willing to strive for. Many people do not like to have to wear something prepared for the job they are supposed to do and they prefer to learn only tricks that do not need preparation. It is a personal decision.

When on a gig, I wear my High Caliber Holster with attachment. That way I always have three identical looking (Phoenix) decks ready. These are always, Aronson st**k, Trilogy with DD's and a deck set for Anniversary Waltz. The last one happens to be in Aronson as well, just to give me some extra safety.

Privately I always carry an Aronson st**k. Would not dream of leaving home without it.

In my house by the way every normal deck is st***ed, even the jumbo and the giant ones.
