Hello to all!

When I was younger my Grandpa showed me how to do a few tricks. Sadly he passed away just before Christmas and since then my love of magic has been rekindled. He had a rather big collection of books, videos and tricks that I have now inherited. It's going to take a while to sort through it all to see what still works and what I'm interested in as I am now looking to get back involved with magic.

I was wondering if anyone had any reading recommendations or tricks the would suggest to get me back into the swing of things. So far I've been focusing on cards but I feel like I need to expand my repertoire a little. Having said that, I am on the look out for a four aces routine if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome gasman94,

My condolences on the loss of your Grandfather. It must have been very special to have a Magical Grandpa.

With lots of books and video etc., you are apt to get too distracted. Try to focus on one or two things at a time or you might not get far.

If you could name a few of your books and videos you might get better answers about a good starting point.

Ropes are a nice way to go. They are different than cards and feed/exercise a different part of your head.

Check out the "New to Magic" forum for better guidance.

You are in for some fun if you can make yourself focus.

Thanks for the response,

The books vary from classics such as Royal Road to Card Magic, Expert Card Technique and the complete Tarbell course to those on specific magicians such as Dai Vernon, Alex Emsley, Roy Walton and Micheal Ammar.
The tapes are Micheal Ammar's on card magic, Dai Vernon and Alex Elmsley. There are some more on rubber bands but I can remember who they are by. The problem with the tapes is that they are VCR and I don't have anything to play them on. I'm going to investigate getting them transferred onto DVD as I think that is going to be easier than finding a VCR.

I used to know a couple of things with ropes. I have a look through and see if I can find anything that rings a bell.

Thanks again

Welcome to the Café Gasman!

Sorry to hear about your loss, I hope you are holding up well. Sounds like you have a solid foundation of learning material there, all you need to do is choose one and focus on it, Royal Road or Tarbell both being great beginner resources.

Have you ever seen the Guthrie Castle? I would like to go there one day Smile.
