What is the difference between a ghost tube and I phantom tube? Do you have to use tissue paper drumheads with either model?

It's for a gift. Can I use this model without tissue paper? |

A Phantom Tube does not use tissue. However, you need to be more specific about the "gift," since Phantom Tubes do NOT produce a load equal to the diameter as the tube.

Thanks Michael.
I was unclear. The tube itself is a gift for my son who has caught the magic bu. |

The Phantom/Ghost Tube is great for silk productions and anything else that will fit. My Square Circle incorporates one. I'm sure that your son will enjoy it.

Ghost Tube cone is centered; Phantom Tube cone is attached to one side. Either can use tissue paper end coverings... or not. It is not usual to find either being sold with drumhead rings, but you could use rubber bands if you feel you must have tissue coverings.

FYI, I seem to remember seeing a fun kids show routine for the ghost tube on Quentin Reynolds DVD, "Bring Back the Schtick."

Thanks for the mention Donald. There is a very funny five-minute routine with either a ghost of phantom tube on my DVD set.
Jim is correct about the difference between the two. I believe the phantom tube came first and was used for (mostly) silk productions. The ghost tube was designed to vanish a bottomless glass. Melbourne Christopher had a great tip if you are using a large phantom tube (large enough for your hand to go through). Reaching through with your hand from the "clean" end you take hold of one end of a hidden silk and pull it through the tube and out the front. |
