I'm back at looking at learning illusions after several years of learning to be a father and husband and have, possibly, settled on an illusion style that suits me. That is to say Geek Magic.
I've picked up a couple of routines such as Harry Anderson's needle through arm and Sean Fields Sick. I've also learned the human blockhead routine and have Thomas Medina's Geek Magic DVD on order. I'm wondering though, what other illusions are out there? My teeth aren't nearly good enough to even consider learning to eat glass. Plus, honestly, I have a phobia of having glass shards in my mouth. A good phobia to have as I'm sure many of you would agree. We're not even going to get into biting the head off anything alive. So what else is out there? Are there any Geek routines that are suitable for an all ages audience? Beyond that I'm also looking into learning escapes, but that's another topic for another part of the forum. |

Producing a "live" carrot goldfish and then eating it. Ditto with a white mouse (cotton candy).

Loyd's Guinea Pig Chest (Viking makes one now, I think they still do) enables you to do a Harry Anderson and tear-up (or eat!) a live guinea pig. YUM!

When I first read the title, I thought you were talking about Dragoncon,Comicon, Star Trek geek magic. I was going to tell you that there is a Dr. Who Tardis square circle listed on the big auction site.
Then I realized what you were really asking. If you scroll way down the Forum there is a section called "Believe it or not" in the "Carnival of Fun" area of the Magic Café that specializes in this area of magic. I never spent time on a forum with more topical areas than this one. It can be overwhelming. |

Thanks Julie! That's a great one! Now for the negotiations with the wife to buy a $300 illusion and get a Guinea Pig.
Or maybe I'll just hold off on that one. I'll be keeping it in mind though. It's a great one and one I would love to perform. Tim. Actually both the contemporary and classic versions of Geek are of interest to me. I've long been a self described Geek in the contemporary, pop culture sense, but most lately I've been interested in the old time sideshows and the illusions that were part of that culture. I've been wrestling with how to join the two for the last several years and think I may have cracked it. Only time will tell and help from such excellent folks as yourselves will help guide me. |

If you wear a black tux or suit or costume, a moving white mouse will show up in a large theatre, especially if you have access to a pin spot. I'd put a chocolate covered red cherry inside for that extra special splash, and a white handkerchief for mopping up to make sure it gets attention.
