I'm the first to admit I am a hairy beast. Perhaps not Robin Williams (Rest in Peace) hairy, but hairy, everywhere except the top of my head, none-the-less.
How do people here deal with hairy arms when doing routines like Sick or Needle through arm? Is the only choice to shave? Do you only shave before a show? It's been something I've been wondering for awhile. When I first purchased both I did shave the inside of my arms to try them out. It just seems challenging, and itchy, to keep up. For those that are tattooed, does ink help with the illusions? |

You are talking about a gaffed version, or the real one? Sideshow folks don't generally gaff that one, so hairy arms don't matter much.

What he said. If it's real, no need to shave. If it's gaffed, I would highly advise shaving. Otherwise you'll be ripping those hairs out each time you do it, I think.
As for tattoos, it depends on the design. I have a Celtic Tree of Life on my left arm, right about where most would do the gaffed Needle Through Arm. If I used that method, it would crate a very distinct line through the design. I would have to move it much closer to the wrist than most people do it so as not to tip the method. Or, you know, just stick a needle through my arm, which is what I do.

Also pretty hairy but fire eating with brands running up and down the arms seems to keep it smooth. Being right handed my left arm is really smooth where the right arm isn't and some people remark on this fact in social meetings, yes it looks odd but that's what we are,,,,odd !!
What is funny is when during the winter months with far less fire eating, the arms sprout loads of hair but at the first summer gig of the season everything goes up like a bonfire with a smell to kill !!! Hell burning hair has an odour of its own ! |

Hi, friends
Hairier than all of you combined + Robbie !!! Never a problem... Just soooo much fun with people :-D "Youre hiding it in those hairs, aren't you!!!???" :-D When you have the right distance, you can perform the gimmicked needle with no trouble... When I was performing this effect... Before I revealed my healed arm, during the healing process I was cleaning my arm openly in front of all people with towel with a bit of clean alcohol to remove RC quickly... Always good, no problems . As I sad... JUST FUN! Best wishes to all of you and I'm glad, that I'm not the only one King Kong in the world :-D Jakub |
