Product description : Boxes are like a very important trend in magic, whether they’re for card to box, transparent or not, for rings, coins etc.. This is something new since it will allow the spectator to open himself the box. It’s also a box which can be used for various objects : rings, coins, bills, cards etc.. It’s also one of the first product made with 3D printing technology and I must say it’s very well made and looks nice. But is it worth the price ? Let’s find out.
Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $75 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop ! What you get : You get a small cardboard box, I’m sorry but the box is ugly. I think Handcrafted Miracle has wonderful product but very bad packaging ! It looks like something that has been drawn by hands, it’s awful. I know you don’t buy a magic trick for its packaging but when you receive something well made, you expect a good packaging. Anyway, inside you get 2 A4 sheets of paper with a bit of history as well as the link for the online video. The video is well made, you learn several loads, it’s well shot, I’ve nothing bad to say about it. You receive your Box 98 which is really well made and the cool thing is that the key is inside, so you can’t open it in the normal way, you have to find the secret first. I think this is a really cool idea, unfortunately, I already saw the explanation video. The box is really well made and should last a long time. Overall, disappointed by the packaging but pretty happy with the box ! Teaser : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzsLJJjaw8k The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end. THE CONS : – The box has a very unique look so it may be a con for some people. I don’t mind, it looks classy in my opinion. – It’s not easy at all, don’t think you will be able to do it like in the demo in 5 minutes after receiving it. – There is a noise at the end of the load which I don’t like, it sounds suspicious to me. THE PROS : – The box is well made and I don’t think you can’t tell it has been made with a 3D printer, it has been really well put together. – As I said, the main pro is that the spectator can open the box and can hold it for the entire routine. I think magic is so much stronger when it happens in the spectator hands. – The box is 100% examinable. I wouldn’t let them inspect it for hours but they can handle it pretty fairly. – The load is very quick (when you get it down) so the heat on the box is very little. – The reset is instant, you just close the lid, lock it down and you’re ready to go another time. – You can use a wide variety of objects such as bills, coins, cards, papers, rings and so on. – If you take care of it, it should last a long time. Overall rating : The technology on this item is very interesting and the final product is very nice, unfortunately, I already use a box so I’m not going to change it for this one, 3/4 hearts. As for the difficulty level, it’s quite tricky, definitely harder than I thought it would be, you’ll need some practice to get it down, I would say 3/5 stars. Similar products : They are millions of boxes on the market, but Box 98 is the first one allowing the spectator to open the box himself. I've used the box in close up and stage, and it's great. Most of the focus seems to be on using it with a folded card, but that's not where I use it. I use it as a finale to a ring routine, and the loading is much simpler than with the card load IMO, plus I feel the box does look like an old fashioned jewellery box so it fits in well there too.
The big thing about the box is that the spectator unlocks and opens the box. No other box allows this. This is a killer! Looking forward to getting my wooden version shortly too.

Box Ninety Eight ...
the product comes with the key inside the locked box. I handled the box for approx 15 minutes before I had to go online to find out how to open the box. I could not figure it out. Very, very clever. The only down-sides are "talk" on closing. But not a problem depending on your performance conditions, and such a "big" key which behaves "as it wishes". Those who have this item will know what I mean. Overall - Highly recommended ... |

Thank you for the review! For the record, that is the smallest full mortise lock I could find and I've been searching for years. I dislike the key too, but that is the one that comes with the locks and only one key per lock too.
I ordered the locks 2000 at a time which was the minimum order. I suppose if I were making boxes for Walmart and ordering a million units a wrack they would be willing to change the key but magic being a limited market I just can't do enough volume to get them to retool for small orders like I make. There is a section in the video where I cover keeping the box quiet on loads. I perform mine in whisper quiet settings and don't have any noise issues but honestly if you continue to have talk above a whisper when loading it PM me, I have a few suggestions that might help. Best Regards and thanks again DAN
