From the creator of the catch phrase, "Champagne dreams and caviar wishes", and his popular television show, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", Robin Leach is our guest this week on The Magic Word Podcast. It is refreshing to hear the perspective of a non-magician but who is a huge fan of magic. I saw Robin Leach talking with Stan Allen at last year's MAGIC Live convention and later asked Stan about him. He said that Robin is an advocate of magic and a "voice in the wilderness" when it comes to defending magic as a performing art. Indeed, Robin is fanatical in his love for magic and has strong opinions about how magic should be presented and who some of his favorite magicians are who are working today.
And that, in part, is why I wanted to have him on the podcast. I knew that as a long-time resident of Las Vegas, he has seen the rise of magic as an "accepted" form of entertainment right alongside the review shows, singers, bands and Cirque du Soliel shows. He was there in the beginning when Siegfried and Roy broke the glass barrier and put magic on the Las Vegas map. Robin has seen the acts develop all the way through to the most current magic act on the "Strip": Jarrett and Raja. But he also talks about his favorite type of magic: close-up, sleight-of-hand. And his favorite magician is Bill Malone. He has nothing but the highest praise for Bill and has even booked him for some of his private parties for his "rich and famous" friends.
