This month I had my first tutoring session with Jason England. Our focus was
bottom dealing, and we communicated with video messaging. The session turned
out really well for me.

Foremost for me was the opportunity to talk shop with someone who shares my
passion for the Erdnase lineage. As someone who lives on a small island in
Canada, such conversations are rare. Jason is affable, encouraging, clearly
intelligent, and generous with his knowledge.

The conversation was easy; as Jason took the role of teacher, most of the time
I was listening, though there were also opportunities to ask questions and
receive relevant answers.

Perhaps more important than learning the subtleties of the technique, Jason
helped me to re-calibrate my expectations about what we can achieve with the
bottom deal. He did this by going over the history of the move and its non-
magical origins; all the while contrasting the contexts that cheats used the
move with the ones that magicians use it.

For a guy who can probably bench press me, Jason contradicts the image of the
thick muscle head man. His explanations are articulate, his answers are relevant,
and his grasp of nuance is clear. At one point, he referred me to a specific
page of a specific version of Erdnase without looking at the book for reference.

The cost of the tutoring was market rate for someone with Jason's experience.
Given my exposure to the existing literature on bottom dealing, the value
well exceeded the value that a similarly priced book or video would have provided.

Having gathered renewed motivation for study and a list of things to do, my plan
is to practice accordingly for another six months, and then to book another
session.

Onward. Smile

Good luck. Ironically I was considering doing the same thing. Either for the bottom deal or possibly the center deal. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Interesting. Was it a live interactive chat, or an exchange of "video messages"?

@shakuni I sent Jason a private message to ask about
tutoring. He doesn't advertise this service.

@EagerlyLearning It was a video chat over Google
Hangouts. We could have used another VoIP service too,
such as Skype.

So is he okay with you advertising here? Smile

@robert Good question. Yes. I have Jason's permission to
write what I wrote here.

Shaun,

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, I do offer this service but I typically don't advertise it. I prefer that students seek me out of their own accord as Shaun did. That filters out the merely curious from the serious.

I also had a video session with Jason. I received a lot of information in that session, not only mechanics of what I asked about, but he gave me the tips on the finesse to make it work better.
Definitely will be scheduling more sessions when possible. Jason is a great teacher and his style works very well for me.
