I have been working with cards for 50yrs.
Getting older, wiser, lazier.
I have started using Phoenix decks, primarily as they are so easy to faro.
Is there a book that goes into the intricacies of working with one way backs?
I have 3 or 4 handling methods I have used since the 1960's- but I figure lots of smart people have looking into this.
This can be the cleanest, easiest card selection you will never see.
Basically I like to read and appreciate the thought that can go into simple ideas.
Searchs here, google, my local magic shop, etc- no real luck.
I need to add a book or two to the library.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know of a book offhand, although I am sure there are many that address one way backs but I do know there is a DVD called "One Way Trip" that Card-Shark sells on the uses of the three one way features on Phoenix brand cards. The dvd was made by Steven Youell and I found it to be interesting when I got it a couple years back. http://www.card-shark.de/index.cfm?page=......rtID=284

Thanks. This is the type of info I am looking for.
I like books more than DVD, but this looks good.
Thanks again

Glad you brought the topic up. The chapter in TEOCT's is one that I was referring too in the first post. Unfortunately, there is a large amount of one way back work "hidden" among the descriptions of such effects that are scattered throughout many many ancient texts that will not be as easily found. Since I brought it up, I popped in my dvd copy of "One Way Trip" and was a bit taken aback as to how good most of the info was. I had only briefly watched it when I first got it and it found its way into one of my several dvd holders.

I loved watching it thru (twice) since I recommended it. Nice history, fantastic "drills" to help hide any "tells" you may develop along the way and the routines are strong. Not just thrown together to say "well, here is a bunch of stuff you can do" - Absolutely not, they are well thought out and solid routines.

One Way Trip ordered and on the way. Thanks for the insight.
I love it when I am directed to something I already own, and can enjoy it again.
Glad that worked for you to.
As a book collector I have books I have browsed, but not really studied.
It is amazing how many gems are hidden away in these old pages.

One-way back decks often suffer from one of two issues - too obvious or too hard to see. Some new decks (a la Phoenix) have it built in purposely and others make you wonder if it was on purpose or just poor artwork.

A nice deck that can work well if you don't need to read it at the corner is the Bicycle League Back. The image is shown in this ad.

I really like the oneway pattern of the League Back, even more than the phoenix.
I do routinely use phoenix decks now, and am learning to use its options.
Shocking clean options are available, and seem underutilized.
Good for me- knocked the socks off some knowledgeable folks.

I just have to say...These used to be my favorite cards back in the day. For the life of me I couldn't remember what they were called and I couldn't find it anywhere online. You just made my morning!

Many of my bike decks have uneven borders which I use as one-way feature - and hey: they're regular, ungimmicked decks after all!

This is why I often buy "Bicycle Seconds" ;-)
