Oh come on. Can someone please talk me out of buying this?? I do a chop cup routine at every table and every show. And my restaurants are essentially family/kids restaurants. The repeat families are always back to see the chop cup, sponge balls, pizza paddle or turbo stick, dishonest Abe, etc. wouldn't this be adorable for the tables??? Or. No?
I already do a chop cup routine. My wife says, why bother? That's so...her So does anyone have this? Any reviews?? Thank you! https://practical-magic.com/collections/......lay-chop |

Sorry frankie, but I think that looks great. Im already thiking up corny jokes, you could reveal the bunny under the chop cup as you say "you know doing magic table to table is called table hopping?".
Or look annoyed and say "Hey who ordered the chicken?" and then load an egg as a double whammy. |

Personally, I would not bother. You just stated that you do your chop cup at every show and every table. Why carry two? For ME, one effective method/prop that works for all ages and in all situations (like yours) would not warrant the new cup....just my thoughts

Looking forward to Richard's review and thoughts on the "Play Doh Chop cup". On the surface it looks like it would be a nice novelty for family or children oriented shows. Like all the novel Chop Cups made over the years (beer cans, soda cans, Dice cups, pool ball pockets, etc., etc, etc.) it has that novelty and non-magic-prop appearance (as if that was really important). I think this could also be played for an adults only venue (pub) if played very young in cheek.
It is a nice looking novelty. A person with some artistic ability could sculpt any number of final load pieces. I doubt it is something I'd invest in or give a go. BUT the jury is still out on this prop at least until until Richard's review. As to Leo Smetsers "Coffee Cup Chop Cup", that could be and probably should be its own discussion thread. I can answer the questions. The coffee cups are the paper versions found as carry out in some coffee shops. They are the small size. They are indeed manufactured gimmicked. It appears to be a prop designed and made for this single purpose and the gimmick is not an add-on to an existing cup. You have to think "shim" and not the typical modus operandi of a Chop Cup. It can hold water, coffee, soda, etc. (but why?!?). The balls are the real deal of the set. They are the super well made, mini baseballs that Leo has become known for. They are purpose made for this cup. That is to say, they are paired to this cup perfectly. So the answer to the question "...well made" is yes absolutely. The balls are premium and represent most of the cost of the set. The three cups are well made from heavy card paper (typical of this kind of cup) and with a modicum of care they will last for some time. However, unlike metal, plastic, or leather cups their life span will be shorter. I'd recommend buying a couple of Leo's final load baseballs to match the balls being used.

Thanks to all for weighing in.
I guess I was thinking of the repeat customers. You know kids; they love seeing the same stuff. They always want the sponge balls and dlites and silk vanishes and Turbo stick! And I can never leave out the chop cup. If a repeat family doesn't see the sponge balls and chop cup, they feel like I'm not finished yet! So I have to do the chop cup no matter how many times the kids have seen it. And the father: "I swear I'm going to figure out the tennis balls this time!" I also try to add something new for them, the repeats. Maybe the pizza paddle or a color changing hank or Dishonest Abe. I've even added a one rope routine. I've also adapted the stand up monte for kids using bananas and monkey printed cards So I guess for me, it's just about adding some variation for the repeats. Can't wait to hear how it rates! Thank you all again! --Frank |

Hey Frank. I totally get the repeat customer issue...that is another thread/topic. And can be a challenge.
by the way, I have seen several of your you tube vids and you are great! |

This just arrived today and is the cutest rendition I've seen to date! This is something I will, most definitely, use in my birthday party shows for children! It is not cheap as it is a hand-crafted set made to appear like an authentic Play-Doh tub and balls. The cup appears to be custom with an official Play-Doh sticker adhered as I have been unable to find them commercially available in this size. The largest I've been able to find are 5 oz tubs which are approximately 3 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches according to Amazon.

We are all magicians here so I see no harm in sharing the instructional video for those interested in knowing more about this fantastic set. The dialect is in Spanish but it's a chop cup video with much closer look at the props at hand. PM me for information.

There's a thread going on in "The Workshop" where they're chopping Solo Cups.

Solo cups are cool but the Play-Doh cup really stands out as even adults remember it fondly from childhood. It will also hold a pretty large load with a striking contrast to the aesthetically pleasing, bright yellow color. I will post the dimensions including the mouth diameter when I get home this evening.

Heck, you can do what I did and go to the Dollar store and get a mini Pringles potato chip can. It just has to be metal on the bottom. You can load it with a red potato at the end or steal a fry from a plate if you can.
