Very excited for this episode of the Vault! My good friend, artist and straight up Renaissance man Andrew Gerard has some mentalism gems to share with you today. This is the first installment of our studio sessions series we will be doing and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Three brand new ideas here and ones that Gerard has never tipped before, all inspired by the work of the legendary David Hoy. Be sure to check out his music videos and amazing photography as well! Gerard on Hoy is now available from your favorite dealer. Enjoy!

This download is low on running time (right at 22 minutes) but PACKED with some seriously clever thinking!
Gerard's "Invisible Book Test" is a nice variation on Hoy's that I'll definitely keep tucked away in my mind for the right occasion. It reminds me a little of Zandman's "IBT" in that it doesn't require you to handle the book prior to the performance and I like Gerard's framing of the moment where the mind reading is apparently taking place. The drawing duplication is an application on Hoy's test that you've likely already thought of so this really didn't do much for me in terms of inspiring/novel content. But the two versions of ACAAN are REALLY quite beautiful (and I typically shy away from using playing cards)! Version 1 is ABSOLUTELY something I could see myself using though in an impromptu/casual performing opportunity (I'd simply use one of my preferred "thought of card" techniques) and I KNOW this would fry some minds (even though it uses the cheekiest of methods). All in all I really enjoyed this release. Best, Drew

I am sure that you will get juice out of this sneaky little download; AG's touches are great and will get you thinking about the potential of the Hoy Principle...
Recommended! PS: there are two card tricks too, guys! |

You would link I would have learned by now. Ha!! I am currently going on 48hrs since time of purchase and nothing. I can't even view it, let alone download it. I have sent 2 emails to them, with no reply. That is another thing I have noticed lately too. Questions/emails literally go unanswered. Their quality of service has definitely dropped the last couple of years. |

Just got it today from Penguin. As others have said, the video is unable to stream. However, I was able to easily download and watch the video instructions. Not difficult to download. The content in this short video is strong! I loved it! Very clever ideas here. No fluff added and I appreciate it.

Hoy ACAAN V1: A card is selected and returned. The pack is shuffled by a participant and placed on the table. A number is announced (this is an absolutely free choice - any number from 1 to 52 can be named) and someone else deals down to that position in the shuffle pack (you genuinely haven't touch it since the initial selection of the card). The selected card is at that position.
This can be done with a borrowed deck and zero preparation. It sounds like "Holy Grail" conditions but there is a bold technique in play (that I absolutely LOVE). I've mentioned many times before that I don't use playing cards in paid performances (barring two or three RARE exceptions) but if I was put on the spot and handed a pack of cards this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that I'd do. Hoy ACAAN V2: This uses two packs of cards. One of the packs is freely selected and shuffled by a participant - the other is kept in the box and remains in full view. A card is freely named (genuine choice) and then a participant cuts off a group of cards from the shuffled pack. The cards are counted and the named card is found at the cut off number in the boxed pack (which you've never touched - the participants can unbox the cards and count to the selected position). Again - the conditions with V2 are impressive but seeing as how this is a video devoted to Hoy there are some bold and cheeky methods in play. Regarding both ACAANS: What I find most valuable here is the inspiration that it provides me in applying a well known Hoy strategy outside of the context of books. I've been pondering other "outside-the-book" uses since viewing the download over the weekend and I'm excited about other possibilities that are coming to mind. Hope that helps. Best, Drew

Yep. Me too. I complained to them....also complained about the lack of communication in general.. They are saying that its something with the vender, which makes zero sense because other dealers aren't having an issue delivering content.
