Yeah the app looks legit but it's the magician phone. For them, everything you have could be tricky.
GeraintClarke, how long they was amazed? May be 10 min later, they find the solution (they typed all the information on YOUR phone) The comparison with the Center tear is good, but as darwin ortiz write, with the center tear or a peek pad, you have a physical Barrier. The center tear: you tear the paper, this is the physical barrier that prevent the mentalist to obtain the information. The peek pad, the physical barrier is the paper that the laymen keep in one pocket. For both example, the tools was given by the mentalist, but you have this physical barrier. For Cipher, you give one tool, they type, and you retrieve the tool. there is no physical barrier, or conceptual barrier. what if they can close a phone case? (physical barrier) What if you retrive et pocket the phone. With a good time delay, you peek the information. ((physical barrier and time delay) The obvious solution for a laymen: - this is not a legit calculator - he can duplicate the screen on a smartwatch due to a bluetooth connection (that was my first thinking, because its the mentalist phone) - he can click back on the screen - ... One wish: "Hey Mister mentalist, can you do it with my calculator?" It looks like that I don't like Cipher. Wrong. It's good but have to be scripted. I need to re read Designing miracle.... |

I have been using iPhone apps since Greg Rostamis iForce and I absolutely love them! Make Phillips has also got some beautiful apps which I've used for several years now. Further more, I use toxic at every gig on a spectators phone and it just blows minds. After gigging them all for so long now, I can assure you, there is nothing lost in using your own phone. Everything about a magician is suspect, this is absolutely true! But in the same logic, how often during a gig do you get asked if that's a 'normal deck'. Of course its a normal deck but because we are doing incredible things with it and because of the misguided education of the general pub lic into our art, they presume they are perhaps trick decks. I also use pens are are gimmicked. In fact 3 effects I do at EVERY gig use pens that arent normal and yet, they presume they are normal. The same logic applies to a phone. Yes they may think the phone has something to do with it but when I perform toxic, whats to stop them realising I may have done something to their phone?
Further more, just because this seems simple and quick and obvious, please don't forget the classic methods of our art. Combine old with new. Don't forget the roots of our art. Someone mentioned having them type something into a calc and then straight away revealing it back... fantastic logic my friend! I get that E have marketed it this way but in the real world, if you are worried about it, time misdirection is a fantastic tool to help. I wouldn't ever reveal it straight back to them! I know it can be done sure, but it just adds that little bit more deceptiveness and helps camouflage everything a little bit more. Also, think about how information is revealed. It doesn't have to be as robotic as literally repeating it back! Check out Ophiuchus By Mark Chandaue. The methods he employs are brilliant and the structure of that routine can greatly help with your successes when it comes to Cipher! I for one think it has great potential! I like Wikitest, iUnlockyourmind, Marty, iForce, CardtoPhone etc, its another tool I have on me at a moments notice to blow peoples minds and create a lasting memory! Jamie Daws

There are different types of spectators for sure. I agree that there are some spectators who are not "happy" until they figure it out, some just enjoy the moment and some enjoy the moment and then try to figure it out. Not every technique is bullet proof to every spectator. I fry a lot of people with Kollosal Killer and a waitress a restaurant figured out the entire method in 3 seconds. I usually say "sure that's how the other guy does it" with a smile. I don't think the possibility that some spectators can back track to a potential method totally ruins the entertainment value but it may in the minds of some magicians.
I have pretty good reactions from the Michael Murray calculator phone unlock, similar principal. |

Anyone else coming across problems when doing calculations after awhile? I have the toxic reveal set at three times equal. It seemed to be workin fine the first dozen or so times I used it, but now after hitting the equals sign for the 2nd time, I get a number with the letter "e" and a "plus" sign.
For example, Using 28 times 11 (Nov 28th) I get the correct 308, but when I then multiple a pin # of 6969 and hit equals, I get this: 2.14645e(plus sign)6 When I then multiple that gibberish by the time, say 545, I get the correct toxic reveal. I've tried clearing things out, closing the calculator and re-opening, etc., but still getting the same issue. Am I doing something wrong? |

Adding layers makes it more impossible for a spectator to figure out the secret.
If you are revealing the serial number from a bill, it's better to use "their" bill by doing a billswitch. You could combine this with Richard Osterlinds "Watch Routine". In this version you force the time twice. Analogue and Digital. You could make the outcome of the calculation less important by using this number as the starting number for another "calculation" effect. |

Its an amazing app.
But I found a bug which makes it unusable for me. Typing 1500*1500 results in 2,25 because the app gets confused with "," and "." Make sure to test it before going out with it. |

Well, curiosity and copious amounts of Johnny Walker Black Label got the better of me last night and I ended up purchasing it (hell, for $20 it was either that or a crack rock, amirite?). So, at first I couldn't find the video, but the app is so intuitive I actually figured it out myself - like exactly how everything worked. No problem installing the app BTW. Then, when I did eventually find the video I found it to be great - those guys are funny and all the info was there. Soooo, last night I decide to give it a go on my fiance who of course gets to see everything in a very rough, unpolished form. Of course, I had her use the bday of somebody I didn't know and a random number for a PIN code. I had the force number match a dollar bill I had switched. Well, she threw the bill at me and screamed "That is the best thing I have ever soon you do!" Which was quite insulting considering I have been at this for decades and she usually is pretty easily amazed, even after all these years. SOOOOO...this turns out to be great, massively under priced and well worth your $20. I will now dutiful slink off in a cologne of self loathing and shame.

I'll be interested in purchasing this when the Android version is released (August?) One question I have at the moment: are any of the date information reveals reliant on US date formats or will they work with UK (dd/mm) format?

Meh - division ain't so good if you are going for a big number

If the number is something along the lines of "2.14645e+6" would be roughly 214645000000, which is a HUGE number, so dividing it is logical because you're trying to get a big number that fits on the calculator screen. E+^ basically means 6 zeroes
