John Carey is a machine when it comes to producing good workable magic for the real world and has put out an enormous amount of work.

With that in mind what are your favourites as there are no doubt plenty of gems that I've over looked ?

Some of my favourites that have served me well are :

An Impossible Conclusion
S.W.I Interchange
Gemini Detector
Stealth Aces
Daley Might Have Liked This

To name just a few, all have one thing in common each one is very direct and plays very well in the real world where it counts oh and none require a set up so can be done with a borrowed and shuffled deck of cards.

I don't own any of his material but someone posted this link a week or so ago. The force he used is really cool and I had never seen it before. I've been using it a lot recently.

I've used "Inspired By Pierce" since Gary Jones showed it to me, around 10 years ago. I think it is almost the perfect card routine. Hi John btw if you chime in!

From his material I've seen so far, I like his take on the Anniversary Waltz plot and Up for Larry. I'll be using these !

My favorite John Carey Trick is John Carey. The man himself is the real source of charm and amazement.

I just watched the preview for Classic Carey and I really liked the card switch trick he did. So simple but so great. I like this kind of trick. I might have to pick this up sometime soon. It uses the force that I mentioned earlier as well.

I have a lot of John's material. It's amazing how he takes complex routines and simplifies them down. My current favs are
Shh it's a Mystery...:
Searching for a Sandwich
Pseudo Vernon
Summer of 76
Think n synch revisited

I am a John Carey fan also. I just do two of his tricks right now. These tricks are You and Me (spectator and performer's card transpose). It's from the Classic Carey DVD. I also do Searching for A Sandwich from his Handle with Carey DVD which is an excellent seemingly impossible trick and cuts straight to the meat. Gets very good reactions from spectators. I modified it slightly by forcing the first Joker and using this as a gag. I also really like his 3 Chances trick on the Handle with Carey DVD. It's not unlike the Buck Twins Subway trick. Since I already put in the work to learn and master the Buck's Subway trick from Trilogy, I am not going to perform Carey's simpler version. The beauty of John Carey's work is definitely how he simplifies tricks, omitting unnecessary handling but yet the tricks remain solid pieces of magic. I like his casual friendly style too. I will no doubt learn some more of his material over the next year.

Bluff Thought Sender.
Think and Synch Reloaded.
Shh... It’s A Mystery.
Kung Fu Do As I Do.

Love Mr Carey's work and have both his book and all (I think) eBooks. Seems recently he's been producing dvds/downloads and now a monthly magazine. Don't know where he finds the time to be so creative and productive, let alone road test and really refine his routines, touches, moves and nuances.

I believe he also did a version of ACR, called, "Ambitious?" I really like that one, it's very smooth with great presentation off the classic trick. Smile

John Carey is a gem of a card magician, as is Peter Nardi. I can't get enough of both of them. What great brains they have. Anyway ... My favourite John Carey trick has to be 'Night at the Casino'
I just wanted to mention that I also recently came across that nice force that John Carey uses. I think it's a crackin' little move .. it's a bit bold though, but if done just right it works like a charm.

Would this be the one he showed in the Alakazam after show party if so I agree and what a bargain it was too for those of us that paid early Smile

If you don't yet have a favorite, here is a link to 121 effects for $40.00. I'd be willing to bet you would find at least one favorite among them Smile I just got an email about this in the last day or so. This is a combo sale, the 2 ebooks are $5 more if bought separately but if you just want a sample... buy just one.

He also has a few inexpensive video downloads at Vanishing Inc that are very good:
John Carey Streamlined (my personal favorite compilation)
John Carey Collection vol 1 & 2 (both are also excellent)
Cancer Sux - It is time to find a Cure

Don't spend so much time trying not to die that you forget how to live - H's wife to H on CSI Miami (paraphrased).

Great post! I have a couple of his books and they are awesome. I came across a new one (to me) by John called "Balducci as I Balducci". I have gotten lots of "wows!" from that one. Has anyone else performed that trick? thoughts?
