There lived a gardner once in ancient Japan. He wished to plant his ten bonsai trees. He wanted to plant them in rows of five, but wanted four rows. He could not split the trees for fear the trees would die and leave him with nothing. After much thought he planted his trees. How were the trees planted?

Sure you don't mean five rows of four trees?

I agree with Jack!
5 rows of 4 trees is easy enough (think: pentagram) 4 rows of 5 trees seems impossible unless the word "rows" is flexibly interpreted (e.g. if they are all planted in a line 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 then there is a row of 5 trees: 1,2,3,4,5; another row 2,3,4,5,6 etc) |

I am very sorry for the screw up. I was tired at the time I wrote the puzzle and the edit function does not work quite like it used to. Therefore here it is again:

Plant them as a star shape if its 5 rows of 4 trees.
