If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

@tommy: Unless I am mistaken, it seems like there are a number of casinos in your area. If that is the case, why would or do people play in these private games where they either pay a time charge or rake, take the chance of being robbed or cheated, have no security protection and don't receive any comps or benefits for playing? Since you live in a large city, seems like people in your area have many ways to gamble, in addition to poker, and don't have to subject themselves to these problems.
Since I am not acquainted with your area, I must be missing something because I don't quite understand this. I would appreciate if you could shed some light on this seeming contradiction. |

Right up until 2005 there was still quite a few private gaming houses because there were not so many casinos and they closed at 4 am and so players then would go from the casinos to the private gaming houses. In 2005 the law changed and now the casinos can open 24/7 and there are many new casinos about. Most of the private gaming houses have closed now.
2005 was a very bad year for us as our high stakes game was built around a very wealthy businessman, who sadly died in 2005, may he rest in peace. Since then our games have slowly gone down in more than one. We do still get a game though and they say come here because they like the atmosphere, whatever that means. I don’t really know why but I guess the main thing is that it is private, whereas the casinos are open to the public.

A few private games also extend credit once you were known around the place
For bad players who can't turn a profit or gambling addicts, this is very attractive Consequences be ***ed, they at least get to play The players who still frequent these games around here tend to be low income or down on their luck They're also held in someone's house in the bad part of town I used to deal a few higher end games. 5/10$ and up with 2k buy-in minimum The second casinos catered to poker players, these good games disappeared Only leaving only a few questionable ones open to serve the unservable |

I do not think there are any casinos in Northern Ireland.
