Anyone see Eric Jones do his routine on AGT? As far as I am concerned, it was better than what he did on P&T. I thought it was the best use of his "prop" that I had ever seen, and told him so.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

I didn't like it. For one thing, he flashed pretty badly, and I thought it was awkward and as a personal matter I didn't like the repeated use of the gimmick. It was disappointing. I really wanted to like him and root for him, and VOTE for him. But I don't think it was his best performance. He's a wonderful magician, and I came away thinking, "Bad shows happen to the best of 'em."
Also, I was put off by the "I'll be a good father if I win a million dollars" intro.

Actually I liked it a lot, he uses the gimmick several times but in different ways and in that way I think it hides how the gimmick works, maybe the weakest point was the coin in the shoulder, however it was unexpected so the judges could it liked it.
The appearance of the coins under the bill was nice as well. If I have to find something to criticize, and just to be picky I will use John Mendoza's statement of "Too much magic", so many things in so little time. All along very entertaining |

I thought he did a very good performance and he showed good control and command of his spectators. Using the gaff repeatedly was not a weakness in my opinion.

A little pushing to the limit of the props, but is for TV so I think it's ok striving for the high visual impact...IMHO

I think it was OK but I also believe this could be a case of listen to your audience, read through the YouTube comments, it's really quite shocking. Far to many people describing how the trick works and getting very close most of the time, it made me uncomfortable anyway.
Eric is a fabulous magician but maybe he did push the limits of the gimmick a little to far. Also unforgiving lighting and camera angles, a bit of a shame really. |

Why a micro-effect on stage and why the same effect on both TV shows? A beginner magician knows these methods. Stage is a different beast. It's not "informal/casual" time, it's "show the world something you think is impressive!". hashtag facepalm.
It's not their senses that mislead, it's their assumptions.

I really think you guys are being a bit too hard here, but with all due respect to your opinions of course.
Y'know, all these same things would still be true, and Eric could've won. I wonder then how it would've been reviewed. Mixing apples and bananas a pinch here, it's hard to tell Floyd Mayweather, despite going 10 rounds with a boxing neophyte from another kind of ring, that he's not the best at 50-0, filthy rich for his efforts, and with his opponent dangling off the ropes unable to defend himself. So, while he might not have been perfect, he didn't have to be to finish perfectly. But I digress...back to the ranch. Let's remember that Eric made it to just a step before the finals. It's not that he didn't entertain and fool the pants off the judges, he absolutely did that and that's all he had to fool as this was a contest. Also didn't come up short for lack of showmanship or ability, he lost because they decided to go with what they felt was the greater entertainment, a singer. If Houdini himself would've went up against Michael Jackson in such variety, he would lose too, IMHO. Not because he's not a great-enough magician but that the world applauds way more singers, or music than magic...It's just a much more popular art form. And this isn't about magicians knowing the methods, I'd be surprised if anyone worth their salt in this stuff, didn't know pretty much what was what. It's that laymen don't know, and thank God for laymen, the uninitiated, as it is mostly them that keep the true wonderment of magic going. I think what Eric did was impressive, and I knew every step of the way he took, and it took nothing away from my appreciation. It takes a lot to go out there and do what he did for weeks in efforts to make it to the finals. I only saw two people left up there, and they had beaten all the rest. Personally, I applauded them both. And there's a lot going on in the background as to what he does & doesn't do as well, stuff that is out of his control. He did a lot with what he put together out there, but in the end they chose perhaps the promise of a greater entertainment as to singing. Eric pushed the envelope quite a good ways to the world as to magic, and was a fine representative of what we all do here in one way or another, the big, small & all of us. And yeah, it's terrible what they do on YouTube to expose things ---just what they heck is all that about? Kids!!! But it don't take away from a wonderful effort by such a stellar performer, especially a fellow Café brother. You win & lose in life, everything is either a blessing or a lesson, and I'm sure Eric will learn a lot from all that he experienced and let us experience along with him as to our fine art.

Here we go again On the Café that Ugly word "Jealous" really the performance was Outsatanding just Perfect his comedy "Your My favorite Judge" His performance had a beginning middle & end He fooled everyone the audience & the judges look at there reactions. I watched the perforance with family & lay people they were shocked the next eposide he did not move foward into the Finals . The speaking about his father is creating an emotional connection with the audiene which is brilliant! Well when you lame posters get on Agt at the level he did make sure you come on so we can blast you !! Horrible all of you this is exactly why a lot of professional magicians don't come on this board & post anymore !

Note that I never commented on Eric's performance. He was outstanding as always and anyone who has the guts to perform on this type of show has my utmost respect. As for being jealous, absolutely 100%, I only wish I had the courage to do something like this. My earlier comment was purely based on that in this day and age, when a performance can be watched over and over again I was shocked by the accuracy of some of the comments on YouTube, but this is the time we live in I guess. I am sure that almost every comment on the video only came after repeated viewing. Again Eric was great and entertained and fooled everyone that watched. It's just the YouTube thing really bothers me and I guess if you perform on t.v. these days you have to take into account that the performance could be viewed thousands of times.

I would appreciate if somebody know by certainty and can pm me the gimmick and manufacturer that Eric used in this trick. Not fishing I know he uses a !@#$**r that should l**ck but rather than building one by myself from the ones I have I'd prefer to buy the whole set. It is Kueppers, Mason, other?
Thanks .. .Pablo |

Pablo,
To me it does sound like you are fishing. Since we are talking about fishing he uses dolphins. |

He started off with two bad errors. He flashed. Clearly flashed. Then he called Heidi 'Mel B'. Both problems.
Once he got going, though, I thought he settled down and relaxed a bit, which helped his performance a lot. Even though I've been impressed with his abilities elsewhere, I've found his other AGT performances weak, out of his comfort zone. Here, though, he finally seemed to be in his element, using the gimmick to good advantage. |

As for the flash, it's live tv. Didn't see it on my phone. As for winning, no one can beat kids and animals and a dying dad.

LIVE TV and Pressure is always challenging. The youtuber critics still are way off as to the methods. Eric Jones is courageous and a winner!

Lovely presentation. Excellent staging too, to assist the "process" - job done for Eric, to catapult his visibility to millions rather just to magicians.

I'm a big fan of Eric he has some amazing skills and I count myself lucky to have seen him lecture in the flesh. However if this is the performance I think your referring to ie 4 coins vanish and then appear under Simon's bill then that was almost as bad as exposure to use the gaff as many times as he did, I saw comments on youtube basically saying he used a trick coin and that after each vanish they could see him put the coins back into his pocket and that was from a layman.
He's capable of much better I know there are many that disagree with me but I personally think when using a gimmick it is best used in a subtle manner rather than so blatantly even if you have the coins examined beforehand. That said I'm still a big fan and think he has amazing skills |
