Ticked me off that they were so short-sighted they couldn't come up with a legitimate arc for the change in premise.
"Oh, it's not working! Quick, get a new premise!" They could have had a story line showing Blake at the club, helping out the owner who's in over his head. Something along that nature, Instead we ended one season with the jet plane and suddenly he's in the penthouse of the club. I also saw a clip of a fight with Blake and two goons in a pool hall. (He produces an egg as a distraction and to remind you what the premise of the show is.) The fight was so wooden, I have to wonder if this is where Bill Bixby decided to get into directing; "Wow. I can do much better than this!"

Sadly, while Bixby was a reasonably good magician, and a very good actor, his physical prowess was lacking. In the pilot episode, he throws a punch and looks terrible doing it. It made me wonder how many magicians would throw a punch in a help someone situation. When you hit someone, your hand takes damage too. Not good for a magician is it?
Still, to keep from showing this lack, most episodes did not feature physical fights. That was for the best. I loved that series. Did the producers/writers run out of gas? Or was there another reason it ran so short?

I go with they ran out of gas.
I stopped watching when they gave away the method of an illusion and when they showed the switch between Blake's body and a dummy that the gangster then shoots (he was distracted by a diving hawk... in a warehouse!)
