Bought the following set in a job lot and I'm trying to identify the maker but google hasn't been much help
The shell is thick and doesn't have the indentation at the other side like the Royal Magic ones. I thought they might be Seo Magic ones but their have a gold tone and these have silver tone in the linings/letters. Any help please ?? Here are the pics http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp89/......phs7.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp89/......fyld.jpg |

I just get “syntax error” messages. No photos.

I'm not sure there's a proper "maker". I've seen a handful of different styles coins, and the backs of these remind me of some that I've previously seen described simply as "Japanese coins" (as you said). Here's one seller: http://www.approachchina.com/japanese-co......350.html
I'm not sure if they had a "manufacturer" any more than the Luohanqian coins did. I know it's not really a big help - but I guess the follow-up is to ask what you're trying to do. Find more? Or just determine how to find others gimmicks that might match? |

So, from a quick glance, it looks like the one side of the coin is identical to that of the Royal Magic coins. I suspect this was probably intentional (laziness?) so I'd hazard a guess that the Japanese ones would fit in the Royal Magic Shells. I can't tell from your comment which you prefer - I read it the one way the first time, and the other way just now.
I suspect there aren't other matching gaffs since they're hard to find. From my prior research, the one one that seemed to have others was the Luohanqian coins, but it is possible. Let us know if you find any! |

Looks like a Ton Onosaka set I bought twenty or so years ago.

I agree, they are from Ton Onasaka. I believe Stevens Magic used to market them.

Good call, I concur: https://web.archive.org/web/201205230136......d=111917
I wonder if it's silvery because the gold tone faded over time? |
