I've been playing around with shiny silvery mesh tubing from Dollar Tree, now being sold in 12 yard (11 meter) packages for the forthcoming holiday season. It has different characteristics from rope that makes a new challenge for rope magicians, but it is very visible and sparkly from stage. You can make it more like rope because it is hollow, and it is easy to slide string, yarn, etc. inside the tube to weigh it down if needed. Splitting a piece of the tubing along its length allows you to hide the pieces on top of a longer piece and I'm just beginning to get some ideas for how to use it for cut & restored effects, stretching, color changes, and possibly a lot more. It comes in more colors than silver, all of them sparkly but not so bright and visible, but good for contrast. I don't have enough new uses for the stuff, like I did to put out an e-Book with the feather boas ( "Boa Trix" in The Wizards' Journal #32) but I've just begun to work with it, so who knows?
