Hi all,
My name is Richard but I'd be happy to be called Eric's dad. I'm a staying home dad who works from home part time. We're homeschooling our son so I'm with my son basically 24/7. While he's in class, I escape to the world of magic, conspiracy & paranormal. While I'm hopelessly a horrible performer, I'd consider myself very curious student of magic. When I see a baffling performance or trick, I can't stop thinking of how it was done. This issue of mine led me to purchase too much (well, at least my wife would say that) trick sets, dvds, props & etc. This also made me collect quite a bit of magic items over last 20 years or so. I'm also a terrible Tenyo junkie. I recently (not even a week passed) purchased Tenyo Elite Ultra Tube...which I'm still working on how to break the news to my lovely wife...who knows nothing about it yet. I wish I had a choice of not telling her but boy I used her eBay account to purchase it so I'm outta luck so to speak! :-( . Anyway, I'm not sure joining this group is a good or bad thing. There are just so much information here that is mouthwatering! Perhaps TOO MUCH! It may crack my marriage! Well, may be not, but definitely will have negative impact on our bank account! Although I frequented this site for many many years every time before I purchase a new trick, I never bothered to sign up for some reason. There's a reason why I joined this group at this particular time, which may be explained in a couple of weeks time. (Don't we all love a bit of mystery? ) Anyways, it's nice to finally join you guys. Thanks for the warm welcome in advance! |

Welcome Ericdad,
Joining my be good for you. Great performers may be born not made but there are lots of ways to improve if you want to. (If not just be a collector LOL). If you did try to get good with one trick before moving on it would certainly save money. In time here, you will learn that how a trick is done is not the most important aspect. Have fun and remember that most of us have been horrible at some time as beginners but we got past it. Is your Son interested in Magic as well? -Mary Mowder |

Oh thanks for the warm welcome and words of wisdom! Yes our son, like any other kids at that age would, loves to watch a good magic trick. Thank you.

Hello Richard,
I too spend more on magic each year than what I should. I am a Tenyo collector but currently have most of the pieces I want. Most of what I buy now are tricks that are no longer made or very cleaver "Tenyo like" pieces. What I like to do with some of the magic I buy is to try and come up with methods of making the effect more magical. Sometimes this is accomplished simply in the presentation. Other times I come up with a new handling or completely different method. This process keeps me more evolved with the magic I have and less time hunting for new tricks. Having said all that, it's all fun and keeps me young. |
