Hi All,
I recently purchased the book The Great Illusions of Magic by Byron G. Wels, and there is a reference to a balloon production box. It describes being able to produce 20 blown up balloons from a 6" box. The method involves water and Brioschi but does not include any measurements. I have been trying a multitude of measurement combinations with these ingredients, but cannot seem to get it to work. Has anyone ever been successful with this illusion or does anyone have another idea about how I might create the same effect? I was hoping to do a Christmas tree decorating illusion using the balloons as ornaments. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Adam Stone www.adamstonemagic.com |

I would experiment with Baking Soda and Vinegar. Probably a little more expansive.

You know, some "good" ideas have been put out there without having been tested. And then other authors just repeat these ideas without having tested them either.
I think the alum-based "Card name on hard boiled egg" is the most repeated classic 'trick' that doesn't work. I don't think it ever worked. I am thinking that the Brioschi (I have also seen Alka Seltzer, Fizzies and baking soda/water as alternatives) method of inflating balloons doesn't really work in practice either, at least not in a show. Maybe I am just too skeptical. |

The only think I have gotten to work is a balloon "canon" which shoots lots of small pre-blown balloons into the air from a concealed position. I use a floor dryer fan and attach the blower to the closed end of a large garbage bag that is filled with balloons. It's easy for a back stage assistant to keep reloading it with more garbage bags filled with balloons to keep the balloons flying up instead of just falling down from a big net that everyone can see. The surprise entrance of the balloons is much better.

Hi Jim,
Thank you so much for the reply. I am trying to picture what you are saying, but need a few more details. When you say a balloon cannon, are you coming out while being showered from balloons off stage? That sounds amazing! As for the floor dryer, is it a think that is the shape of a really large snail? Thank you so much for this. |

Here's the fan I have been using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006O6FA22 Wiz Kid Director Fred Goode used one like it to keep a beach ball levitated on the tip of his finger for a photo in my e-Book on "Blinking, Bouncing, Floating Beach Balls" from The Wizards' Journal # 29.

These could add additional fun to the effect of balloons bursting on the scene: https://www.amazon.com/AGPTEK-Balloons-B......74KKP2LY
