We are currently looking at how we may be able to distribute our accessories including flash backs and the new cannon fuse to the USA.
Nothing is finalised yet but if we can find a way to do it viably we will. We don't know what various shops sell over there but if they buy from Murphys Magic that flash paper can be printed on.

Yes, the flash paper I have can be printed on, that's no problem. The problem is that it is too thin, and the laser cutout is visible through a single sheet. This means I have to use spray-adhesive to stick two sheets of printed flash paper together, which causes it to burn slower and hotter.

I would not really let that worry you the print on the flash paper will not make it obvious and the audience does not know what is going to happen anyway.
The box card can be used in a very poor state so don't worry that it has to look as new or nearly new every time. The printable flash paper we sell does burn slower than the thinner because it is thicker so you can't have the best of both worlds. We have just released Super Fast Flash Backs for those wanting a quicker burn but its not easy to print on, just another option we are offering.

Saturn: I do not want to engage in exposure, so I will not take a picture of the pack with the laser cutout showing through the flashpaper. But assuredly, the idea that it is "not obvious" because the spectator "doesn't know what will happen" won't cut it in this case. The hole is as plain as day, even under dim, ideal lighting. Two sheets ARE necessary.

Murphys will have stock of our Flash Backs soon and can distribute them worldwide, the only issue is they are classed as hazardous so some dealers may exclude stocking them due to the increased shipping costs.

Just a PSA for anyone getting the Theatre Effects Flash Paper. I still need to let it dry more (probably okay, but will wait until tomorrow to make sure before trying to print on it).
You are not going to get 8 cards per page. I was skeptical when I first heard this, because math, but figured I would wait and make sure. Here's the template that's included and showing how the flash paper fits. The Theatre Effects pages I received were actually 8.5 by 9 inches. There's the template, the flash paper overlaying the template, then just to show it's all the right size, I put cards on the template and alternated red and blue for contrast, then put the flash paper on top of the cards. I'll need to make up a new template to not just have a bunch of red printed in space that could be used to draw or for fuses. Click here to view attached image. |

I have been able to print on the tissue-paper thin Theatre Effects paper by affixing two sheets together with spray adhesive, and then affixing the two sheets to a piece of printer paper with spray adhesive. Again, it works, but the cover card on the box is nearly entirely blackened after a single run-through of the effect.
The poster above me is correct as well, you will only get six cards per page, the last two are cut off. |

What does the non-flash paper routine look like?

We supply a countdown audio file in various langauges with a cannon explosion sound and a scream as he flies through the air and hits the box. As no flash is used the box is face down on the table and lifted up at the last moment as if catching him in mid air, the box then shows the cut out through the cards etc. The only bit of fire in the routine is setting fire to a small piece of paper in the cannon, it is not flash paper, you do not have to light it if you don't want to use fire at all. This version is still fun to do but the flash version is the best.

One of the numerous things that sticks out in a negative way about this release is that it seems like you're selling things that are not what you actually use. Or at least if what you're selling is printed on one side it's not what you were using at the time you did the instructional videos. Any chance you're going to sell your flash paper or string internationally or just the finished sets at a much higher price per use? |

The flash paper has only ever been printed on one side, there is no sense in doing it both sides as only one is ever seen.
I can see your point regarding other items we have released recently that are not on the tutorial. I have been performing Stickman Bob as instructed in the tutorial for a couple years, it is Kieron's trick so I have been doing as he does. It dawned on me very recently after we filmed the tutorial that maybe string would work, in the past (unbeknown to me) Kieron did not use string because the one he tried has very thin (thick was not available) and would not feed through the barrel so paper was the way to go as instructed. I then independantly thought about using thick string (after the tutorial was filmed) and made some up and found it worked really well, Kieron only got his hands on some the other day and he loves it also, it is much easier to use. Any flash string will work the effect as long as it is stiff enough to feed through the hole in the cannon, it does not have to be ours. This week we also launched a steel smoking card which will last "forever" and will save you having to make your own templates for smoking. This is not mentioned on the tutorial because I only just thought about it the other day when a couple of people were saying they did not like making the cut outs themselves. Some bad news is we have hit a shipping problem with the flash paper to Murphy's that we retrying to resolve, the hazardous nature of the product is the problem when shipping by air. If it can be resolved we may be able to sell the raw material for you to print your own, the problem we have at the moment is we can't make this quick enough and have run out of stock again of the sheets we use. So yes there have been new things come out for Bob not mentioned on the tutorial, but they have been a natural evolution not things we have been using and left out of the tutorial.

If you place the cannon on the top of an upturns glass you can dangle a long piece and get the audience to count down as the strings burns and then hits the lego cannon for the explosion. |

Frankly, the flash paper is a problem. I tried printing mine and it just jammed up in the printer. No, I'm not going to go out a purchase a different printer. We'll see how much flack card backs cost when they are available. Good trick, but hopefully it is economical to perform.
Otherwise, I'm going to have to figure out a different way to do this, that is more practical. KJ |
