The earliest version I can remember reading is David Devant's version (outlined within 'Our Magic' 1911).

I still perform the method by Edward Victor, from 'Magic of the Hands' (1937).

As for Oil & Water. I don't think I could possibly detest a plot more.

Oh, gee - stay away from my Miraculous Oil & Water "piece" in JAW DROPPERS. Honestly not as "jaw dropping" as most of the other stuff in the book - but I've caused some jaws to drop just a bit when performing it. And I'm enlarging on that a bit in my next book - AND FINALLY!
