Yes, you heard it right...The Gambling Spot is Closing Down...
Or, is it just going to die a natural death because of disinterest and inactivity? Maybe it has seen its day and should now graciously drift into oblivion. Should we keep it open so that every one to two months someone may make a post? So, what do you guys think? Should we all revert to full-time "looky-loo" status perusing unposted pages, scrounging for whatever free information we can get or should we make some meaningful contributions to keep it alive? Does The Gambling Spot have any value at all aside from an occasional minimum effort 2 or 3-word post from occasional contributors who peek in now and then? Has everything meaningful that can be discussed on this public forum run its course? Is there nothing new under the sun, or in this case on The Gambling Spot? Are we back to only handling questions that have been addressed, over and over again previously through the years, or are we not even doing that anymore? Should we all just post on our Facebook pages instead? (Personally, I dislike Facebook although it can have some minor benefits at times. However, keep in mind Facebook (and social media in general), psychologically impinges negatively upon society and most importantly on the younger generation...including addiction, social isolation, narcissism and depression. At least, that is according to many psychologists and the founders and hierarchy of Facebook itself. Plus, any contrary view can be squelched by being "disliked" or "uninvited" or some other such nonsense.) So, what do you gentleman think? Is this forum just an old war horse and a relic of bygone days - doomed to be relegated to obscurity? Is there really nothing more that is meaningful to say? Or...do we all simply have more important things to do over the holidays? Just a thought... (Yes, I do have a thought...occasionally.) Oh...Just having some fun guys. |

Why wont you let the gambling spot just simply spin with the world? You do spin, we know it 100% by now.
Maybe you could make a post where you reveal the famous "gift sense". |

I think there are many factors.
1. New medium are now favoured. In the past we had discussion lists (who remembers?), then newsgroups, then forums/websites, etc. Now people use Facebook, Instagram, etc. New generation, new tool. I'm afraid that forums, which are not trendy, are near to their end. Too slow and restrictive. 2. New habits. In my time, we read books. A lot. And we wrote. A lot as well. Now, people prefer videos, watching something "moving". Just check the tremendous success of platforms like youtube. Less efforts to do, just click a button and watch. On a forum, you have to write, check your misspelling, etc. And a forum is slow. Post a video on youtube, in a couple of hours you can get 10K viewers, 1,000 comments. It takes 1 click to share a post on Facebook. All those things are very convenient and people are used to it now. 3. The boom of Poker is now over. It started some time ago in Europe already. 10 years ago, when I wanted to play, it would have taken me 30min to find a game in a pub, club, etc. Or a tourney in a casino. Now, good luck! All the leagues I played are long time gone. I wouldn't even bet that there are Poker games played in pubs anymore... Therefore, less people are interested by Gambling moves, stories, stories, books, techniques and so on. A movie with superheroes will make tons of green, a movie about Gambling, in 2017-18? Er... 4. New people/generation. On a forum, you keep your mouth shut and listen to the pros, the regulars, those you know. On Instagram or Facebook, YOU can be the star, anybody can be one and have his court. You can do what you please, you won't be barred. Don't forget that everybody is now special, clever, has something to say and is a genius. 5. We're dinosaurs. Yep cag, the Gambling Spot old timers are, for the main part, 45 years old and (much) more. This place, whatever the "importance" it had in the past, is now a thing of the past. I relate stories which happened around 2000 or even before, how could it interest a young guy who was barely born? We live in a society where the instant, the immediate prevails. The past, the culture, most of them don't give a *** about it Just an anecdote, I run across young Magicians sometimes, who don't know who Dai Vernon or Edward Marlo are! Steve Forte? Who the hell is this guy? Just to give you an example, when I posted videos here in the past (and I was not as skilled as I am nowadays), I could get 250 or 300 views, after a couple of weeks. The Gambling Spot is a very secretive place, so it was very very good (besides, I blocked all my videos after a while). Now? You wanna know? My last video here had 12 views... It takes me a few hours to have 500 or 600 views on Facebook (with less than 200 friends), with a dozen of comments, shares, etc. It's another world. Yes, this place is dead. I still post a couple of things once in a while, by respect to all I learned here. But, between you and me... it's not gonna last long. |

Maybe you could make a post where you reveal the famous "gift sense". Just to clarify, it is called "GRIFT" sense, with an "R." Having "grift" sense enables you to get "gifts" from others in a gambling format by "taking them off." I suppose we could say the hustler has "grift" sense and the marks have "gift" sense. So my suggestion to those who may be puzzled by the concept of grift sense is to actively start hustling for in decent money games. You will learn what grift sense is pretty fast in that venue, assuming you survive. |

For those who have a burning desire to learn how to spin, the above video is self-explanatory. By becoming extremely dizzy, one can achieve a higher level of consciousness thereby enabling the practitioner to write more enlightened posts. For those who many have an interest, try the technique with the complete costume and replete with the appropriate music for maximum benefit. Certain card table moves are better performed when in this enlightened (dizzy) state, such as Cag's "Dropping the Deck" technique and AMcD's highly coveted "Greek Bottom Deal." |

@AMcD: I agree with everything you said on your post above.
Times have changed tremendously and videos and social media are definitely the "in thing." The Poker Boom has certainly lessened but still is alive in Vegas and in many other areas, with tournaments and live action games in many casinos. One can still find a game, day or night. Slot machine type games are pervasive and people sit on them for hours, completely mesmerized by the flashing lights and simulated spinning wheels. More and more table games will eventually become electronic in nature and the newer generation just loves this technological "flash." Alas, some of us old-timers are dinosaurs and certainly, the Gambling Spot continues to deteriorate - its demise on a "pratical" level is pretty much a matter of time - and maybe not much longer. Oh well, back to my spinning. |

On Dec 16, 2017, Peterson wrote: The expansion of consciousness of the Sufi Spinning Dervishes Dance of Istanbul is experiential in nature. It cannot be realized on an intellectual level. One has to actually physically engage in the practice to benefit. It is my understanding, but have not been able to verify, that the elite of the poker playing world have secretly engaged in this dance on a daily basis to enable them to achieve higher levels of card playing expertise. At that level, success is more "intuitive" rather than mechanical. I should also mention that according to reliable sources, those who have practiced this dance have achieved greater mastery of their bottom and second dealing techniques. (Unfortunately, even this dance does not help with AMcD's Greek Bottom deal. Nothing helps with that move.) This apparently simple dance also allows one to achieve higher levels of Grift Sense because it shatters the Cartesian mind/body dichotomy. My suggestion for Peterson is to learn this Sufi dance and practice it assiduously. Then in a more enlightened state, try "moving" in some big money poker game with observant players. I guarantee this will eliminate all your questions. PS: Don't forget to keep us updated on how this all works out for you. |

The Gambling Spot has always had a few problems.
1) The people who do the most posting are home game takedown artists (if that) with little to no real casino experience. 90% of the posts are about moves that would never work in a casino or any other venue beyond playing for pennies. 2) The people with the most knowledge don't post very often. (ie Jason England and maybe 3 or 4 others) A forum in social engineering would be more beneficial |

While I don't have any intention of entering into a "knowledge" or "experience" contest with anyone as that would be absurd and meaningless to do, I am absolutely certain I could match my casino experience, on both sides of the table, with anyone on this board. I believe reading back over my previous posts would corroborate that, at least to the extent as to what can be written about and divulged on a public forum. However, "If you say you is, you ain't." I do agree that about 90% of well-known moves would never work in a casino or any other venue beyond playing for very small stakes. I have mentioned that repeatedly in my posts. Most "gambling type moves" are primarily of value for magician/demonstration purposes only, not for use under fire in meaningful money games. I would also say that 99% of the people on this BB with casino experience as employees, past or present, have never "been there" on any meaningful level, in any venue. However, that does not necessarily include everyone who has posted, currently or previously, as maybe a retired hustler or two may may say a few things now and again, even if only to have some fun. Of course, currently active pros are out "doing their thing" and would find nothing of value here. |

I think also, such a vast number of topics have been covered, that there are probably only a handful of publicly available techniques/scams remaining that haven't been discussed. I can only think of maybe one or two things that I don't believe have been spoken about, and the things that aren't publicly available I wouldn't know about anyway!
But we do see significantly less people asking for advice on technique; it seems the 'crappy bottom deal spot' has also died. |

There is no statistical or scientific relationship among all participants that the number of posts made by a person portends to his knowledge of the subject or his technical ability. One can point to individuals who post infrequently who are knowledgeable and those that post frequently who are also knowledgeable. I believe that statement could be used more as justification to explain someone's lack of participation on the BB rather than his expertise. |

@SimonCard: No. It was my feeble attempt at satire because the board was going dead and no one was posting.
We would never close the board down without your permission. |

I'm afraid that this constant and non-stop repeated diatribe of yours has a lot to do with people leaving that place. Millions of people have never put a single foot in a casino in their lives and yet gamble everyday. You can play cards everywhere, private games, clubs, pubs, bars, backyards, etc. I have never understood your obsession with casinos! As if the only way to play was in casinos only... And who cares about the stakes? For you, $1,000 or $5,000 is probably nothing, for me it is. Even $500. I prefer to win $100 ten times with about zero risk, than do show off in a 50/100 games with pros, cameras, security personnel, a rake for every pot and people who can afford 100 times the big blind all the night long. Cheating is a matter of context. You make me seriously laugh with your "under fire". You think that trying to steal $500 from average guys is easy? You think they're gonna shake your hand with a tap in your back if they catch you cheating? What matters is the money you get at the end of the game. Methods, etc., are context related. Moves that you despise because not used by your so-called pros make a lot of money for other people in others places. I'm gonna give you a hint, in Asia, they hardly know what a riffle shuffle is. Yet they are the countries where the most money is made in terms of gambling nowadays. |

@AMcD: Well Arnold, I am responding to questions and situations that keep coming up.
You have written the concepts in your above post repeatedly. I think you take everything too personally. If you take what I say offensively to such a degree, I suggest it relates more to your somewhat hyper-sensitivity rather than to what I write. I can't help you with that. However, what do you think I should do - quit the BB? I can do that very easily - and without hesitation. If I stay I will continue to write the things I write about and do so in the way and manner I frame things. I like to take things beyond the common place. So, let me know - I really don't care...Actually I have been thinking seriously about leaving the BB anyway. Just to clarify, what I write has absolutely nothing to do with you. Of course, if you don't like my writings, don't read them. Simple...No? |

Even if I was the one targeted by your comments (or anybody else's comments), I have a tough skin, it wouldn't be that serious. And I would not care that much.
I was just relating again, with my style, what many other people complained about in the past. Let's face it Cag, you care mainly about casinos and pros. And you wrote countless times offensive words (insulting, offensive, despising, hurtful, etc., you name it) against demonstrators, amateurs, etc. Is this place reserved for pros and casino players? I don't think so. The road is large, and we have (or had) people coming from various cultures and context. I can understand that for you I am nothing, raking a few buck here and there is far from your world, but what's the point to repeat over and over that only pros know, that casinos blablabla? I think we have understood the message. Why would you quit? I don't insult you, there is 0 animosity in my words. This place is almost dead and we are talking about the possible causes which lead to this situation. Your constant rant against people who are not casino players is one of those, because there are very few people from that category hanging out here and because others already complained about it! My very special style for turning of phrases is, by no doubt, another one. We are what we are my old friend. You know, I'm the last one posting videos here. And I'm also one of the very few who has given his background (amateur player, low stakes). So, when you read comments about "demonstrators" or "guys playing for pennies", etc., comments which are most of the time contemptuous, how the hell can you (or others) assume that I'm not gonna take them personally? Seriously, who else is aimed at if not me? Who relates amateur games stories? Me. Who posts videos? Me. Who, for the last years took a great part in keeping that place alive posting material? Me. You say your writings have nothing to do with me, I'm glad to know it lol. But from my perspective, it's not that obvious . This website is for Magicians. It's already a miracle to have a few pros, some casino personnel, a few amateur players. |
