So that's the commercial out of the way, MagicMike!!!! I don't think you want to be too far from the prop unless your working a stage performance... this is a close up prop meaning I'm close by, intimate, in the circle of people at the table. I've seen this done for real, and when the card was dropped in by the spectator he missed it and it dropped at an angle then as he went to straighten the card so it could fall in the box flat, his big hands knocked the box and the lid fell shut and ruined the whole effect.. I won't go on about what happened but it was embarrassing for the magician (a close friend of mine!), as the "moment" was lost.
He also told me on more than one occasion some spectators can be heavy handed when they grab the box and shook it, lets just say it rattles a little now! Like I said originally, the trick is impressive but not for all types of shows. You also refuse to accept that my box works with IT, think again, it was used over a 20 year period and used probably about 40-50 times without any issues. IT is used for various props to create movement including un-screwing nuts and bolts or moving a sponge ball from one side of a cabinet to another. As I said, I'll try and make a short video of the prop and post here. |

No offense but this thread is about the the Haunted Box, not the many uses of IT. I have no doubt it can be done but like comparing apples and oranges. I can easily do a Haunted deck with IT but for special perfromances cannot beat my clockwork deck for a magical looking hands off effect. Oh and believe me have seen many peformers mess up with thread.

Of interest here's a chap who made a similar box 27 years ago with the same slamming lid rather than a sliding one.

A bit over priced for a simple effect like this IMO

I buy seldom (apart books), at least seldom "standard" items. But here I couldn't resist; also, as I had and have a good story for it which fits in my show and my person. Just received the "DeLuxe" Edition.
I really like it a lot, it is superbly constructed and laid out, you can tell that many thoughts went into it. I know Joao in person since early 2014 when we met for the first time during the Mind Summit in Cologne. I knew already then that we should watch out for him... It is indeed very impressive to see his growing "product line". And his customer support is great, top notch. I can tell as I contacted him for some individual modifications and requests and Joao always answered within hours, if not minutes. A thing I find very important if you deal with items like he does. The Box is really wonderful constructed and (at least I feel so) the price tag is quite modest if you see what you receive. I can't recommend it highly enough. Jan

I wanted to give my review of the trick. I got the limited edition because it was the only one I could find to purchase. Does it work, very rightfully so, is it elegant and engineering in the product good, yes! I haven't had a doubt in the perseverance of the trick from the beginning and especially how many creative minds Joao has worked, top billing magicians. I got my limited edition and love it! Very happy! Now depending on your budget, I can understand on this one might be a tough buy, but very well worth the money. I, as someone that works for a living and freezes their butt off in the snow, give it my best recommendation! Sincerely JW

Hi There
I am also owner of this box. The box is very great and easy to understand. But the best is that you can create hundreds of own routines with that. You can do some modern magic but if you want also some old style routines. It depends a bit of the history. Also it is possible to modificate the box and add some special color or items to give him a different look. Also you can repeat the effect all 30 seconds so it could be good to go to an other table and show the routine again. If found a better handling for the card effect. Start with the cards with back on top. Do not show the pictures. Let them shuffle the cards and spread the cards with back upside. Let them choosing a card and they can sign it on the back. Do not look on picture side. Put it back and give the cards to the spectator but now turn the packed with pictures up. Nobody knows the card but it is signed on the back. The spectator can now put one card in box and next card etc etc. When the box closes he can take the next card and turn it and can show his signature. That looks better because nobody knows the card. |

I received mine and really like it! (standard version). I re-lined the box with red velvet and like the way it looks now. Was a bit of a pain to do as the felt is really glued in but came out great in the end.
I discovered that the tags Hugo Shelley sells will also work with the box. They are much smaller (a bit larger than a half dollar) so will fit in smaller items. http://www.hugoshelley.com/?product=adhesive-tags These smaller tags will allow you to gimmick a business card. This could be a killer item for trade shows or areas where you want to collect business cards. Have the box open on your performance area with a few cards in it (including your gaff card). Say that you will show them a miracle but you need some business cards. Collect a bunch of cards and then go into the haunted Box routine using the collected cards. I will have fun with this. Cheers, John |

Received this a few days ago. I like it a lot. The box is very nicely made, and I only sprung for the standard one but I like it as it came more than I thought I would so I may just keep it as is, when before I got it I was pretty sure I was going to refinish it. I still may, we'll see.
The box works great and will fit into my existing "spirits" routine perfectly. However, there were a couple cons IMO. First, it's not really possible to switch on the box on the fly and the video instructions give VERY little info regarding charging and battery life. So if you think you may do this for a special table at the end of the night or any situation such as that, you may need to turn the box on at the beginning of the evening and hopefully the battery will last long enough. Or if you're doing it table to table, you'll just have to determine how long the battery will last approximately. I suppose I will leave it on for a few hours after fully charging it and see if it's still going strong a few hours later. But I wish more estimations and details were given regarding this. Secondly, you receive 2 bike card gaffs, a red and a blue backed. Both of mine were so warped and wavy that I considered them unusable. A couple days inside a deck placed in a card press made them usable but certainly not perfect. But they seem to have a "memory" and tend to revert back close to their original waviness so I may have to keep them in a press fairly permanently. I just wish that when you are paying a significant amount of money for a prop, manufacturers would care more about the little gimmicks that come along with the expensive main prop. I feel that in this case, all the care and attention were given to the box and the card gaffs seemed almost an afterthought. But having said that, I am very pleased with it overall and certainly wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again. It does work as advertised extremely well and allows for a tremendous amount of different presentations. But again, I bought it primarily as a middle phase of a parlor routine I already do. I'm not convinced it's strong enough to be a closer or a featured effect, and at that price many folks may want it to be. But time will tell and I will hopefully be proven wrong about that. |

If I remember correctly, the info is provided near the end of the video. Maybe I have been lucky but my two gaffs are absolutely perfect! I can hardly tell the difference between these and regular Bicycle playing cards. I like my Haunted Box a lot! It is 100% reliable and I like the highly patterned wood on my standard box. I won't change anything. It gave me a good return for my money during the Holidays! Among my best purchases of 2017! Simon |

I can verify the 13 hours. I left it on all day yesterday and used it frequently all day as I tested new ideas, etc. It lasted at least 13 hours, when I checked it this morning the battery was dead, but I would be comfortable after this test leaving it on for an evening, etc. Having said that I do wish there was a little more elegant way to switch it on and off but not a big deal. Anverdi cleverly used reed switches to secretly switch on the power or in some cases there was no draw on the battery if a trigger was not present, eliminating the need for a switch.
Like Simon my card gaffs were in good shape. I am keeping the gaff I am not using in the pages of a heavy book to ensure it is in good shape when I need it. For those that own Hugo's Insight deck those cards will act as a trigger as well. I experimented using one of those cards in a regular Phoenix deck deck with great results. Neither my son or wife could detect any difference between the plastic Insight card and the regular Phoenix cards when dealing them into the box. Just another option if you happen to own the Insight deck. Overall a great prop and am happy I bought one. |

So, if you own an Insight Deck, then you have 52 gaffed cards that you can use in a regular Phoenix deck? What a great tip!
My Bicycle gaffs were also in good shape. I think I would ask for replacement cards from the dealer you bought the box from. Love my Limited Edition box, BTW. It's beautifully made. I did order some hat pins from Amazon, cut them down a little, and I use them to open the bottom of the box instead of that wire. It's a lot easier. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HJ......F8&psc=1 This is one of my favorites of 2017, as well. I used to have Anverdi's "Surprise Box" on my desk at work and I used it a lot. But, I think the Haunted Box is even better. Robert |
