Hi guys.
Not sure whether this is the proper place to post this. I am looking to build a servante to attach to my table. This small table is used while sitting down. So the servante needs to be shallow. Any tips or ideas on how to go about this. Do I make sort of a bag, or should I go with a shelf like thing. Thanks for all and any input.
Yours,

I have build several over the years. Not enough info to help much.
Is this to be permanent to the table? What effects are you planning to perform? Would a well be better? How much silence is required? Do you have to be able to retrieve the item? My current table has a drawer. I modified the table rather than build a servante. There are computer keyboard drawers that can be affixed under a table and slid out. On a card table a bungie cord between the back legs can support a small tray. A bag that sits on your lap and just hidden beneath the table top is easiest. Long ago, a friend just covered the table with a large cloth. When seated he would take the back edge and tuck into his pants like a napkin. There are clips for holding a table cloth on a picnic table. These can serve to support a quickie servante.

Wasn't it Don Alan who used a saddle bag type "servante"?

Great ideas guys! And thanks funsway. My head is spinning now.
My table is a small version of the mikame table I believe. It's like a box, without a back and without a bottom. There is very little space from the top of the table to my lap as I made the table so that it's not too high up for some of the moves. I want the servante to be silent and I will be dropping mostly cards and coins. I need to be able to retrieve things as well. I love the shallow drawer idea a lot.

Ivan, depending on what items you'll be "servanting" I'd suggest looking into Ross Bertram's "Welcome Mat."

In Al Schneider’s cups and balls dvd, he has a routine that depends on a servante that is integral to his close up pad. He unrolls the pad to expose the cups rolled inside and the loaded servante ends up in place where he needs it. Essentially, it is a wide, hanging pocket.

I think maybe you mean integrated into the pad? I'd imagine the pad could be a pad without the servante.

Watch the dvd. It is a homemade pad. Argue semantics if it makes you happy. One piece, simple design, very functional.

I don't have the DVD, so I asked. I read your post three times trying to figure out what you'd meant, so I wanted to clarify.
I'm not trying to argue semantics, but sometimes it's important for clarity. Saying something is incredible vs incredulous have completely opposite meanings. |

Integrated, then. I was just trying to be helpful, not confusing.

I think it's incredulous that Al's incredible integrated servante is integral.

Have you tried a Lappit? <sp>
This is an item that makes doing magic while sitting far more convenient. PM me if you need a description. |
