Curious about that myself. I imagine not.

It's obvious you wouldn't leave the torn sharpie to the spectator as a gift, so it weakens the impact, but even if you restore it to its original shape, I'm sure many people will wonder about why there are no marks left on the sharpie.

I like the idea, because I use Sharpies daily, but I'm curious as to a full performance and handling... I mean, if you can give it out, Sharpies are about $1 each, so that's something to consider? |

So, maybe they saw his version, and decided to improve it for a release? Maybe they worked together, and/or maybe he is even credited with inspiring the idea and improvements? |

It doesn't matter to me which one is better, this release or Alan's, because in both case, there is still an issue. You can't prevent people from thinking "can he do that with my pen". At some point, someone will have the opportunity to ask you about it. This kind of mental magic effect will never come close to metal bending regarding spectators' reactions. It's cool to come up with new, fresh ideas. But if I want to perform mental effects, I will not perform this one.

I don't own sharpie effects that's agreed but It does appear that they have just released something I put out years ago. The video you have linked with em above is not the final effect I released. The following video is.
https://www.instagram.com/p/-9HY3PEjAo/ It was released for sale during my blackpool lecture and ues the pen was a writting giveaway. Im currently trying to contact the guys about it to see if we cant sort stuff out but they seem to be ignoring me saddly |

Only yesterday we had a large company remove a product from sale as another performer had created it, but not sold it. In this situation Alan had been selling this effect. Let me make this clear though; is the effect the same? Yes. Is the method the same? Absolutely. I’m going to go on the side that this is an unfortunate case of individual creation. It’s important to note that the replication of Alan’s routine was not pointed out on this thread by Alan himself, but by others. |

I care that people take time and effort to create new and move magic forward. I care that some people are able only able to do these things by making and selling their own props. So when I see comments like this, I just hope the creators know that YOU do not speak for the entire community. Hopefully this is just a case of coincidental independent creation and can be rectified quickly and easily. The attitudes of some people, however, make take longer to fix |

It looks pretty much like a direct rip off!
Why does this have to happen so much in the magic industry, its people like Alan who invent things and make magic better for us all! Without the creators sharing their ideas with us the industry wouldn't change and grow. Enough research should be done before to stop people releasing things that are already out there. Jordan |
