I’ve been doing something with solo cups, coffee cups, etc. and a lemon or something underneath for a long time. Not sure anything really new here. Maybe I’m missing something.

This really feels like Max Maven's Kurosuke with small tins.
Is Mr. Maven credited in the instructions? |

It's nothing like Kurotsuke.

Can you start with all five? Or do you always have to begin with two?

There are 8 tins, not 5. You can start out with all 8 tins on the table, if you want.

I do a similar routine with business cards with different drinks written on the bank.
Got it from a Peter Nardi and Marc Spellman dvd. Is this the same idea? |

You can start with all eight on the table.

You will not be disappointed with this purchase because it's suitable for any venue provided that you have a table. |

It's nearer the end of the video. I think he calls it the "Advanced" version. Watch the whole video.

You can start with eight boxes in play on the table. I cannot say more without...

Actually, you can start with 2 or 4 (as in the advanced handling) but I prefer to begin with 2. But technically, you could start with 8 if they're all paired similar to the advanced version but this wouldn't be the best way to go theatrically since by adding additional boxes later seems to enhance the impossibility of the demonstration.

I would have thought I would prefere the 8 boxes out [to start]
But I already had some ideas for lines and patter - that makes the 2 box start better for me [my voice] The 'advance' version - doesn't really need you to be more skilled - if you set them up correctly it doesn't even need you to have good eyesight Strangely the two box version [start] will seem fairer in some ways - as you can turn your back straight away And as Jared said - each box you bring out is you making the stakes higher... as I said I have patter and ideas - so it's defintely the way I'm going to go forwards with this |

WitchDocChris,
Not coming here to argue with you but for clarification. In Maven's approach, he cleverly gets to a place where an object (the black marble) is either in the possession of person A or person B. What was (at the time) a new and original strategy was his approach of simply asking one of the two to open his hand. If it was the black marble, Maven framed that outcome as if that was the intention all along: to instantly find the black marble. If the indicated person was holding the white marble, Maven then had every other person open and show their white marble - his alternative re-framing that made it appear as if he was intentionally saving the revelation of the black marble for last. Not going to get into the particulars of Menny's commercial release, but as I own it, I know that this strategy plays no small part. |

I was sure at the end in the credits Max is listed I do like this Do note [not sure about the USA] but if you are in England most Altoids boxes are not 'useable' for the 'system' They may list the older photo design - but the stock they have is actually the new version box Shame as the new version is 12 tins for £12 on Amazon I got 12 tins [old tin that is useable] for £19 delivered I think using a real brand is better - and Menny's 'system' for the boxes looks most deceptive On a final note - I think starting with two boxes - and going up to 12... is much better presentationally [yeah I have some bits of scripting I like / feel married to - so may be biased now] Otherwise you need to look/note at the start - and really they get a slightly strange choice... If it's the 2 box start you can really let them choose anything and play around with them - then go completely blind |

It is similar to Kurotsuke, but not so similar that you could not perform both in the same performance.
