My medical professionals? Sorry you didn't go to one I would recommend or they would have known what was happening.
Also don't you think that is something to tell us? Vocal chords are muscles. They have to be taken care of. If you damage them so badly, no matter how, that you can't talk for a month you need to be at a specialist to see if you have done damage that is lasting.

@RNK you can see a specialist straight away if you pay for it or have insurance. The requirement for a doctor to sign off on a specialist referral is to make sure only patients with genuine need see specialists.
I am speaking about the UK context not Sweden but I understand the systems are similar. |

Maybe Mikael can chime in, it sounds as if he does have insurance and that he cannot see a specialist without a referral from a doctor first and get it paid for by his insurance.
I believe you are saying the same thing, "The requirement for a doctor to sign off on a specialist referral is to make sure only patients with genuine need see specialists. " You need a signature from a doctor before you can go see a specialist for your insurance to cover it.

Mikael can comment better than me but I am under the impression that Sweden, like most of Europe, have a universal system not mobased on insurance.
Insurance being optional and providing coverage for private sector care. I know this sounds very strange to our Americans cousins but I can't imagine it any other way. Certainly can't ever see me having to pay for medical treatment. |

So, you do have to have a doctors signature to go see a specialist for it to be covered?
I would rather pay so I can go see any type of doctor whenever I want and have it covered.

Its not a case of it being covered. There is no coverage as such.
If you are I'll you see your doctor and if s/he believes that the issue requires a specialist you get referred and treated for free. If you are wealthy and don't want to see your doctor first then you self refer to.l a private hospital. |

Anyhow I appreciate this is a cultural difference, like gun control etc. Europeans see things differently to Americans but I didn't meant to start a political debate.

You can get private health insurances here too. So far, the only persons I have met who have them are wealthy persons. I am not wealthy. Yet.
I hope this clears things up. I appreiciate all your help. Dannydoyle I think I remember you having an avatar here many years ago. What happened? |

Hi Mikael,
Hope your voice is getting better. Since you didn't feel like your doctor was taking your situation seriously, would you have been able to ask for another opinion? I know I and family members have also been in situations where we didn't feel like the doctor was giving us the best advice and we've gone to see a different doctor and gotten much better care. I know that if I had lost my voice for as long as you had, I would be very extremely worried. As an aside, I hope to visit Sweden one day as I have a number of relatives there. In fact, at one time my great uncle was the oldest living man in Sweden! Magic Live has also show cased a lot of great magic from Sweden which has only increased my enthusiasm to visit. |

He's number 4 on the list of supercentenarians. Anders Engberg. (The top 3 are all women.) Lived in Halland county, so I'm guessing that's where a lot of relatives live although I don't keep in touch with any unfortunately. |
