Hey guys! I'm excited to announce that I am doing a Penguin Live lecture. One thing that I missed from the original Penguin Lives were the audience questions, so I thought I would bring them back! We film tomorrow, so if you have any questions you'd like to ask, head on over to this page here and leave them, and we'll answer them during the lecture: http://www.penguinmagic.com/q/questions-......65d7504d
And here is the link to the lecture page if you want a sneak peek at what I will cover! http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/9420 “Original ideas and new magic. Josh’s work kills me.” – Justin Flom "Josh's ideas are fresh, unique, and you can tell he really thinks about what he is doing." – Peter Turner "Josh Janousky is doing the most interesting and creative magic with money of anyone today. He’s exploring all the boundaries in a way no one else is." – John Lovick Who is he? 27-year-old animator and magician Josh Janousky is a rising star in our community. His close-up magic has turned the heads of industry legends, and his public products quickly became worldwide best sellers. He also was the author of the "Show on the Go" column in VANISH magazine. As a busy professional in Orlando, Florida, his material has been tested in the trenches thousands of times. He’s earned a reputation for sharing workable material with extremely clever thinking, and you’ll see it shine during Josh’s first online lecture. What will he teach? The lecture is split in two parts. The first half features hand-chosen material from his upcoming book on bill magic, along with other favorite routines—including brand new material! In the second half, Josh performs his professional, working set. Here, he’ll also share valuable information that he learned working as a restaurant magician. Here are just a few of the tricks that he will cover: Ripped and Relocated – Inspired by the work of Dan Harlan, this is Josh's construction of the torn and restored bill—ending with a signed mismade bill. It's worth the price of the lecture! Janousky Currency Change – After performing the classic bill switch thousands of times, Josh shares his signature handling. It’s easy and fun to perform! UNO – A modular, multiphase, one coin routine that can fit any performer. Alignment – An off-the-cuff, quirky routine in which the icons on your phone visually arrange themselves into proper order! and more!

I had the pleasure to attend this lecture live at the studio and it was a fantastic lecture. Josh teaches great material that you WILL use! What I loved about this lecture is that it wasn't just a product demo like other lectures. This was all brand new material that he has never released anywhere. All the gimmicks he shows are very easy to make, whether you are a skilled gimmick maker or you have never made a gimmick in your life. On top of teaching you some great effects, Josh goes in-depth on his walk around routine and explains why he set it up the way he did and why it is effective. He talks about great ways to get booked at a restaurant and way to ensure that you get a tip from any table you approach without just flat out saying you want their money. I highly recommend this lecture to any working magicians, especially those who work at restaurants.

I just wanted to share a full, uncut performance of one of my favorite effects from the lecture, called Ripped & Relocated. It's actually the first effect I teach! Enjoy!

Hi Josh,
I will repeat what I said in another post. Might be more accurate in this thread. For what is worth, I really enjoyed your lecture at Penguin. This effect (the TnR bill) was not my favorite one. BUT. I will use 3 or 4 things that you shown. I know it doesn't sound to be that much, but in fact, it's huge. Maybe, until the end of my life, when performing my one coin routine, I will do your stuff with the spectator's hands after the muscle pass. And I will definitely do one of the manipultions with a jumbo coin that you teached. I also love your move with the F.D. and gravity to make a coin disapear. And I'm considering using a SH... in my 3fly routine : it looks better for the spectator and cleaner. So, what's the point of using and hiding a fourth coin ? Yes, it's more rewarding for the magician : "I don't use gimmicks, I do it by sleights of hand only". But, who will ever know ? There are many, many 3fly routines -with or without a SH... Yours is neat, straight and great. This being said, thank you, it was a great lecture. So, guys, let put it another way : If you do walk around magic or restaurant work, you will most likely find something that suits you. That you will use. Class A material and real workers. In how many lectures does that happen ? Yeah, not so many. I like the thinking Josh has behind all that. Great teaching. And, he seems to be a nice guy. |

I watched Josh’s lecture, and there is a huge variety of material and knowledge—I think all magicians will find something to enjoy. There are two sections: the tricks and the theory. My favorite tricks were all with bills, specifically a T&R and knife-through-bill. Both had unique, unexpected methods with fun plots. For several gimmicks, Josh constructs it on camera making it easy to learn.
The second part of the lecture focused on restaurant magic theory. I’m not a restaurant performer myself, but I imagine those who are will find a lot of value here. Josh talks about pocket management, routining, etc. I loved the full performance; Josh shared his complete restaurant act, and it was exciting to watch. Overall—highly recommended! |

Just recently finished watching this lecture and I must say I was a bit upset with myself not watching it earlier.
This is a top notch lecture buy a passionate magician that knows his stuff. I enjoyed the performance part however the explanations were the highlight for me as Josh goes clearly through all the details on how to construct the necessary gimmicks and some of them he even makes live in the lecture. The chat with Dan Harlan about Restaurant Magic theory is worth the price of the lecture, especially for someone interested in this aspect of our business/craft. Overall, 4,5/5 for me. Looking forward to the next one! |
