When it was purchased prior to the event, we took a chance as to how good it was going to be, however, is it now OK to sell it to people who didn't take that chance and are now pestering Alakazam to sell it. If they are allowed to purchase it , the right to exclusivity now goes and in future we shall all now wait to see how good a session was before purchasing it. Alakazam will surely have shot themselves in the foot if they take this course and surely be breaching their advertiisments stating the course was exclusive. Maybe something for Trading Standards to look at.

Shocking to even consider it imho. |

A quick reminder of what Peter said...
"Hi Guys, Just want to remind you that even though the courses are saved into your account to watch or download after the live event they are not available to purchase after the live event. So you do need to pre-book your tickets. Best Regards Peter Nardi" It's fair enough to change the t&cs for future courses, with the ads making it clear lectures will be available to purchase in future, but it feels very unfair (I'd go so far as to say dishonest) to now sell the existing ones when you promised you wouldn't. |

Common guys, I am all about exclusive material here, but we need to grow this art and this product facilitated that.
I get it, you want exclusive rights, but common, let other people pay a higher fee and get a course that hopefully will inspire others to do better. See You Soon, -Jacob |

If CJ quote is correct [and it appears to be]
The less weasely way to do this - would have been to run the course again and not promise that one to be exclusive and then just sell that on. The exclusive nature of the lectures makes no sense - unless they plan on running the same courses every 6 months - otherwise they are just hurting their sales The worst is that Jacob is always a little to 'nice' - as the reality is, that in time... and with sales... ppl in the future will be buying the lecture for much less than people did at the time... so both the 'grow this art' and 'higher fee' are misguided I also suspect he gets most stuff for free and it's the people who paid for the course that should be better qualified to make statements like the above |

Um, it *is* exclusive whether they allow people to buy it later or not -- where else can you get 9 hours of Marc Paul? Nowhere? Then it's exclusive to Alakazam.
I paid ahead of time and I don't care if Alakazam sells it later. I got a price break by "gambling" that it would be good (not really a gamble with Marc Paul), but why should I care whether they now sell it to others? It's not like it'll saturate the field -- most people don't perform all the stuff they buy, anyway (me included). Jay

Also, has anyone created a timeline (index) for this yet? I've started, but am only a bit through the first day so far.

Agree with Jay. I bought the lecture in advance and it doesn't bother me at all the are selling more. I actually thought it was odd they stopped selling it. Glad more who are interested will get to buy it, and glad Marc and Alakazsm will make some more money from the project. It was excellent and they deserve it.

I wasn’t able to make the live event but I did purchase it during the window. At the risk of being pedantic Peter did not promise exclusivity he made a statement on availability. At the time that statement was made it was completely true and made in good faith. There was no statement that the course would never be run again or that the content would be exclusive, in fact the academy states that courses may be re-run periodically.
The big advantage of the academy is the live nature of the event and the ability to ask questions and have them answered in real time. All this talk of taking a risk is silly, this is Marc Paul, the only risk was that of being overloaded with workable material and the possible risk of having your mind blown. Early adopters received a discount and the opportunity to ask questions live. If this is made available again those people who are buying it based on the reviews will have missed out on the discount and the ability to ask Marc questions in real time. When you pay for an academy course you are paying for a seat at a live online lecture which you get to keep in your account to review at your leisure. You are not paying for exclusive content that will never be seen again. Mark |

There is absolutely nothing to defend, the limited availability was not a feature, nor was it sold at a premium price due to limited availability. The window of availability was exactly that a limitation. Derren was only going to be available in my local area for 7 days. Due to demand that run was extended to 14 days. I didn’t see anyone that went during the original dates up in arms or complaining that the availability was extended even though they had to pay again if they wanted to see it again the second week. While we are at it wasn’t the DFS sale supposed to be over ages ago?
Also the ad said that each session would be 3-4 hours but the first session went over 5 hours, those bastages made Marc available for an extra hour, I bought it on the basis that session would be no more than 4 hours, giving me the extra hour was a nasty devious tricksy thing to do, dang those alakazam guys and their amazing content at reasonable prices I am going to write to my MP forthwith!!! Mark, with respect, here's a reminder of what was said by Alakazam:
"Just want to remind you that even though the courses are saved into your account to watch or download after the live event they are not available to purchase after the live event. So you do need to pre-book your tickets." So if the courses are made available to purchase after the event then what was said was disingenuous. |

What was said was true when it was posted and was posted completely in good faith just as the Derren dates were when they were published (I think his New York run also got extended). The reminder you posted above was exactly that, a reminder that the courses would not be available to purchase after the event because at that point in time there were no plans to extend the availability. The course was indeed removed from sale.
That was not a promise never to make them available again simply a reminder that they planned on removing them from sale. Had they not posted that reminder and then stuck with the decision to not make them available then I could understand people having an issue because they may have missed the opportunity due to not knowing these would not be continually available. However there was no promise of exclusivity of content, quite they opposite as they have openly stated the courses would be rerun periodically, I think dates are already up for Jamie Daw’s second run. Likewise there was an early bird discount but there was no premium price due to exclusivity etc. Mark |

Don’t be so bloody daft the contract you entered with alakazam was for the content and the option to watch it live not its future availability. Had you not purchased it when you did there was a very real probabability that you would have to wait until the next time they got Marc in to run the course.
You either wanted it or you didn’t. If you wanted it, well you have got it, watch it, enjoy it and grow up!! If you didn’t want it well nobody twisted your arm!! Sometimes offers get extended due to demand, some gain as a result, nobody loses. Last Christmas I offered to send out one free collectors edition to a deserving person nominated by people on this forum, I only intended to send out 1, I ended up sending 10 and a further 5 standard editions. Nobody complained that I extended the offer. My Black Friday sale got extended by a few days, again nobody complained. Plans change, that’s life, in this case availability has been extended but nobody has lost a thing. Mark |

"Bloody daft" is being polite. I've been sitting back and watching this thread and it is absolutely amazing to me how selfish and me-based these guys are being. The magic and mentalism industry has been bombarded with cr@p for the last decade, allowed and accepted less than respectable releases, lowered the bar, given away age-old secrets to anyone just for the asking, and tolerated some of the worse material the community has ever seen. And now, a pro offers some real legitimate information and you guys want to hog it up and think only from a me-perspective of "I got it and I don't want anyone alse to get it."
You should be taking the exact opposite perspective of "finally something that raises the bar, elevates the material that has been released, and promote this type of quality material to further the community and industry. This is what moves the industry forward, not selfishness of "oh I want the good stuff for myself and all the other cr@p everyone else can have and continue to buy. Also, let's rememeber, the entire thing - Marc, Alakazam, and all invoved - it is a business transaction. They did this as a business venture. Those of you crying like little babies because you don't want others to have the same toys as you have in your toybox, this is also preventing the success of this business endeavor for Marc, Peter and all invoved. Again, so selfish. Now also keep in mind you only paid what $60, $100, etc.? is that the price of exclusivity? It's not like you paid $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 for something exclusive. If it was priced at this price point most of you wouldnt have bought it anyways! And, no there was no contract. I have purchased things in these price points that came with an Exclusive Contract and Media Performance Rights Agreements, and NO, this did not have that. Again, such me-based, high-horsed thinking here. Let them do their business. Be proud to support this endeavor, and hope it leads to more quaity contact and opportunities of this calibur. I would never think of wanting to prevent someone else their right for profit or to make a living because of my own self-centeredness, ego and preferences. This is a good thing, a positive for the community, which could likely lead to more of this. Get over the basic Penguin lecture mentality, and start to see the greater picture and how it could benefit and elevate the industry. Support the good quality stuff, support those like Peter and Marc willing to take a risk on a project like this, support the community rather than thinking and operating from such a selfish, me-based perspective. |

On Apr 16, 2018, Mark_Chandaue wrote: Spot on. The fact we're even debataing, or still talking about this confuses me. The bare facts: They're a (private) business. (Yes, of course, if you don't like the way they do business, you can stop doing business with them. But the rest is frivolous as they reserve all rights.) You can hate it, regret it, write posts, lament it publicly, call for bans, do whatever. It is what it is. I'll tell my 9-year old daughter we're definitely going somewhere, and then a few hours later change my mind (for whatever reasons). I'll then tell her "We're staying home tonight instead." And she'll go on and on about, "but you said!..." to which I always reply, "Yes I did, but now I'm saying we're not because..." To which she goes back to, "but you said!" It's irrelevant, because I can change my mind, especially as circumstances warrant. I reserve that right as a parent. What this means here: You don't have to like it. You can even cry foul (it's not) and publicly complain, although you get to a point where it starts to move from foot-stomping to (potentially, I'm not saying anyone is doing so) smearing. If you purchased either: solely and only because it was 'exclusive' in the sense it was at the time (which is a poor reason as an 'only' reason to get something) Or because you also wanted it and it was 'exclusive'(nearly everyone got it because they wanted to get it), then enjoy your purchase and realize you made a transaction that others won't get, the chance to potentially ask questions, and here's the big one... The obvious (at the time) potential that this will cease to be available, meaning you may not have the chance to get it again. This means you simply assured yourself of the product based on how things work. It was worth buying for you at the time, and my now having it or not doesn't affect you having it and enjoying it. (Yes, aside from the argument some may try to make about others using the material in a professional situation, which is, and can be fair in some, not all situations.) Personally: Marc gave me a very detailed answer, and I knew I wanted it bad. I also knew (don't laugh) that in my family, we talk about big(er) purchases because, well, I got a son going to college and these things add up. I wanted to get it, but would have felt guilty when my wife rarely buys things for herself. BUT, my birthday is in 6 weeks. I'm hoping they make it available, because then this can go on my list and my wife may just pick it up, even if the price is higher, we'll see. But that doesn't affect my knowing that I may have missed out. I made a decision to pass as I couldn't swing it. So even though I would potentially benefit from them releasing it later it doesn't affect my thoughts on the practice of doing so. Just a tired guy's opinion, and no this isn't directed at anyone in particular. |

Thank you Mindpro for interjecting a little sanity in this conversation.
I bought this in advance... and have absolutely no qualms with Alakazam promoting it further. Nor, is it any of my business. More power to them for creating a product "worth" buying! Oscar |
