Even though these light boards are not magic, they can enhance a routine or performance.
Here is an example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdFTA4MyalE |

Initially I was quite interested in the Cobra Light but after watching my friend perform the various effects I completely lost interest in the Cobra. What put me off was the many movements needed to reset the board as well as to program the board during each phase of the effect. To achieve this the board needed frequent maneuvers and turnarounds as well as the need of about 4 second time lag for resetting the Cobra. Also for most phases of the effects the board needed to be held vertically. For each phase the board had to be reset and thus placed horizontally on the table for a reset. And in one of the phases the board need to be placed upside down and one had to pick up the board in a particular orientation to achieve a desired effect. W*F? Thus I said goodbye and decided never to buy a Switch Board until recently when my son decided to get one for himself. I am so grateful and thankful to Mr. Rhett for suggesting the best possible Switch Board, and I am very happy that I heeded his valuable advice. Me and my son are enjoying every bit of our new gizmo. Day before we had a few friends drop in at our place. I showed them the electrical gizmo and they were thoroughly delighted and enjoyed every bit of this little marvel. It became great conversation piece and the gust went home happy but at the same time they were thinking and wondering - How is that possible? I know now for sure that Mr. Rhett knows the various Switch Boards out there inside-out and is one the most knowledgeable person on such board. If you are thinking of getting a switch board, think of Mr. Rhett and you will get the best possible advice. Thank you (once again! ) Mr.Rhett for the good advice and guidance. I am grateful.

However I did do a lot of surfing for the right switch board at a reasonable price tag (a price my pocket could afford) but found none. Said that:- I have seen people using the Wellington switch board but due to the price I could never get hold of one. Personally I appreciate the Wellington and I have mentioned the Wellington in one of my posts on this thread. However, since I don't know the various pros-n-cons of the Wellington, I cannot draw a comparison between the Wellington and the new Canadian SwitchBox. All I can say is, for me the Canadian model has proved to be very good, useful, mindboggling and economically very viable. I am sure Mr. Rhett will be able to compare the two in a very systematic and logical manner. Thank you and take care. Best regards, Narendra

I do like how you can light multiple bulbs with one switch (and the other switches do nothing) with the Magic SwitchBox III SE+
I just wish the bulbs could simply pushed into place and held securely by strong friction rather than having to be screwed in (and unscrewed), which slows things down a lot when you are moving them many times. He even has trouble getting a few started in the demo. But overall, these are all pretty cool. Too many choices! |

Thanks Ustaad for shinig a light on these products. I am now going to seriously consider one.
I do have to say my experience with the Cobra board has been very good. I like the compact sleek look and it fits my "Smart Circuit" AI presentation I shared on the Cobra thread when it first came out. The required actions I have found can be naturaly handled in performance. I also like that it is a tight three phase routine. Reactions have always been good. Having said that I really want one of these boxes to play with! Cheers John |

Hi John,
Like me, you too will be happy to see and play with this Canadian prop. It has so much more to offer. You can't go wrong on this one and can't beat the price these are offered at. I am happy that this thread has generated some interest in this age old gizmo. Thank you and take care. Best regards, Narendra

As to comparisons between the Wellington boards (I own the close-up and stage size) and the SwitchBox III SE+ and IV - I believe the Canadian models do MUCH more than the Wellington board does (unless Bill has changed the programming.) Wellington requires a set sequence of relighting after a bulb switch - the Canadian models do not (at least for the bulb switch.) Other enhancements of the two Canadian models are possibilities of bulb on switches, stacking switch covers to have a switch turn on multiple bulbs and the swapping of the switch color markers and relighting without a pattern on the IV.) I have tried ALL of the possible switchboxes (including the Magic Switchboard 2000 (look it up on YouTube) from, I think, Russia (still available for sale) - which is a beast in size and tremendously complicated to relight - but a visual stage beauty.

BTW - I actually own one of the ORIGINAL Paul Barnhardt switchboxes (which predates and is the model for the Wellington box. Wellington’s is beautiful (actually both of them are.) They are the Rolls Royce of switchboxes! Harry Anderson made them instantly popular by his excellent performance with one of the first of them on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Paul Barbhardt’s board had LIVE voltage that could be touched - possibly leading to serious shock or death!

I've only had one switchboard, the Wellington close-up, and I love it. You do however have to be careful how you perform it. Otherwise, someone may pick up on the logic you are using to operate the switches.

However as technology develops, other better and more user as well as spectator friendly boards with much powerful microprocessor and with better logic come to the market. And like I have been harping, the Magic SwitchBox IV is the best (by no means I am comparing it with the Wellington) available today. I have been using the SwitchBox IV for almost a month and I can say with confidence that this has the best ever designed and built-in logic in the world. With this SwitchBox there is no set switching ON & OFF procedure to follow. Any switch, any color-marker or even both (the switch as well as the marker) can be brought into play at the same time and the powerful logic works flawlessly. Even the spectator can switch ON or OFF any bulb and in order or any sequence at will. All that the SwitchBox ask is to follow one very basic and simple rule. That's it, and you can do wonders with this switch board. And last but not the least, no other switch board can beat this world class wonder gizmo for its price. I suggest, those interested in such gizmos, must checkout the Magic SwitchBox.

Day before yesterday I received my latest stage version of the Magic Switch Board viz the Magic Stagebox IV. This is a class and a beauty to look at. It boasts of being one of the most advanced Magic Switch Boards in the world. It is built around a powerful microcontroller which does its work efficiently. Unlike the many other such Switch Boards on the market, this wonder gizmo keeps you free from remembering any particular set sequence of bulb switching &/or marker switching. All this is handled by the powerful microcontroller. All you need to know and follow is a very simple and common Rule which is applicable to both - the bulbs as well as the markers. Hence leaving you to devote your complete attention to your performance. With the Magic StageBox IV even the spectator can switch ON/OFF any bulb at will. I have played with this newest gizmo and I am very happy with its flawless working. And of course, for the price no other switch board can beat this. While playing with this gizmo, at times it makes me think and wonder - How this could ever be possible?
With the purchase of the latest release of Magic StageBox IV, I have almost completed my needs of a Switch Board. I now have in my arsenal a total of four Switch Boards - Two for close-up and two for stage. I am very grateful and obliged to Professor Rhett (nick at the Café - rhettbryson) for suggesting these switch boards. Today I am happy that I took his advice and guidance for the purchase of the right switch box. THANK YOU Mr. Rhett. Those interested in such a gizmo may like to checkout the various models available with their different but unique capabilities. My thoughts and opinion please.

I have the SwitchBox III SE+ and am still trying to figure it out. This is NOT for someone with a short attention span. I figured out how to activate the "starting point" (bulb in, bulb out), but as far as my needs, I just want to use that option, then reset. One day I'll go through the entire DVD... that is, unless someone feels like PMing me
Aside from that, this is a great item at a great price! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone nearby, but to the rest of the world what are you waiting for? |

Also checkout the demo videos for each models. http://magicswitchbox.wixsite.com/magicswitchbox There company has a total of 5 models but basically there are THREE types of SwitchBoxs. 1. Magic Switchbox 1+ : This is the good old model but now with better features. This one is as good, if not better, as the Wellington Switchboard. This is for close-up. 2. Magic SwitchBox III SE+ : & Magic Stagebox III : These two models work on the same principle except that one is for close-up and the other is for stage. 3. Magic SwitchBox IV : & Magic Stagebox IV: These two models also work on the same principle except that one is for close-up and the other is for stage. IMO, I would suggest Ser # 2 or 3 or both. Ser # 2 & 3 have different features. Checkout the demo vids for both. I would also suggest that you go through the entire thread on this topic once. It will give a fairly good insight about these switch boards. Specially read Mr. Rhett Bryson's (Nick at the Café - rhettbryson) posts. Mr. Rhett has an excellent understanding, knowledge and experience on most of the switch boards out there. Mr. Rhett has very kindly helped me decide on selecting the right switch boards and I am grateful to him for the same. As of now I personally own four switch boards (Ser 2 & 3 - both close-up and stage versions). Let me remind you that IMO, as of now, these switchboxes are known to be the best in the world. And the price is a steal. And like Waters mentioned, and may I please quote:- Quote:
