Harry has so many effects, sleights, and utilities and explains them so well. But, of course, only some of them can rise to the level of classic, right? What do you think they are?

Probably better to ask Harry which items he goes back to when deciding what to perform.
Harry?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I know Harry will have some good thoughts on it. But I'm curious as to what y'all (the royal y'all) are using of his that you really think are instant classics.
I've seen a lot of talk about his Out of This World, Lazy Man's Card Trick, Halo Aces, and The Great Divide. |

Harry printed it in his book, but that's Al Koran's Lazy Man's Card Trick.
(See The Lazy Magician Does A Card Trick by Al Koran in Abra No. 450, September 11, 1954.) |

Thanks Tim; your knowledge is so welcome. But my teaching of Lazy Man's Card Trick is MY version/handling/presentation. I haven't yet, over the decades, found anyone who was performing it until I published it in 1962. Yes; Al Koran showed me his version - I changed it to the version magicians all over the world use NOW. So doubt if your "knowledge" is of any help to Dr. Brewhaha.
Dr. B: That's Out Of This Universe, not Out of This World. I'll leave it to others to say which THEY put into the "classic" level. My list would be too long.

Ok; I don't want to get too deeply into it, but for "starters" - some that others consider in the area asked about: Magician Vs. Gambler, Ten-Card Poker Deal, A Much Better Chance, Stop!, Fantastic Ace Assembly, Numero Uno, Really!, Card Sharp & The Four Gamblers, Double Take, The Epitome Location, Blown Further Away, Powerful Powers - and on and on.

The one sleight that Harry put in his book, After Thoughts, which I find to be beautiful when done, is his Ultra Move. (at least I believe that's what it is titled), myself, I never seemed to get the knack of it but seeing others do it, WOW!

The book is AFTERTHOUGHTS and it is re-written, updated, etc., along with RIM SHOTS and REPUTATION-MAKERS in LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Vol. 1 - one heck of a bargain!
If sleighs/maneuvers, etc., are to be mentioned, yes of course - The Ultra Move, and - Universal Reversal, Spread Control, To Catch An Ace #5, Sweet Four Card Change, Utility Mixer, Illogical Double Lift, The Lorayne Force, Angle Spread, and so on.

I knew after I typed it that it was Out of This Universe but didn't go back and edit it for some reason. And Afterthoughts is in CC Vol. 2 right?

Right. Now we're even - that was my mistake. I'll try to edit it. H.

No, no way to edit, so let me be clear - I'll copy/paste my post and do the correction (can't believe I made that silly mistake). And L:TCC, 1 is long out of print.

Here are some Lorayne Classics, and a few of my favourite lesser known ones (for now...)
Quinella Fourtitude Location Supreme Coincidentally Yours Lorayne Ambitious Card Routine Stop! This is Mindreading? Tell My Fortune The Moving Pencil Preferred One Eyed Jack Sandwich Impromptu Out of this World Any Four of a Kind Easy Indicator Stabbed In the Pack Through the Table Amazing Prediction Halo Cut Cop Strange Harmony Voice Print Guess Quotient Spel(l)egant Concert Aces A Card To Remember Magical Flight Easy Prediction Take Five A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Plus (B)estimation Aces S/F/H Killer ...and on and on. Some great moves are: Universal Reversal R.T.P. Lorayne Force Great Divide Epitome Location Utility Mixer Bottom Stet ...and on and on. It really is a staggering amount of high quality card magic. And this is obviously just a small fraction of his legendary contributions in print. His two latest books are among his best- maybe THE best. JawDroppers is sold out. don't miss out on JawDroppers Two (Too). Good luck! |

Thanks very much magicfish. In consideration of "classics", just consider Impromptu OOTW, how much different of a trick it is to start from a borrowed deck! This is a classic on top of a classic! So glad to have Harry in the Café! Lynn

In a short while you'll be saying "Wish I could find a copy of Jaw Droppers Two" because that is heading toward "sold out". You can order directly from/at harryloraynemagic.com. Go there, click on "Store" and then on "Magic Books" and you'll see all the information.
