Hi, as a new member I'd like to ask for any expertise or advice on how to maintain the lever mechanism on a vintage Cube A Libre trick that I just bought at an auction in Sydney, Australia. It's a fine old piece, very nicely made, with the 'hidden' lever at the top back that actuates a small latch at the inside bottom to 'catch' the shells. The little lever works but is stiff and I wonder if it would benefit from a bit of oil?? Don't know if oil would reach the inside mechanism that is several inches long and don't know if a drop or two of oil is the right thing to do or not. I thought that it might be a bit fragile owing to the age of the trick and a smoother/looser mechanism would not just make it easier to use but reduce stress on the internal workings. I've tried to upload a picture, not sure if it'll post or not.

The only thing you can safely put on wood is paraffin or bees wax. Rub a little on and work the mechanism, not sure how to get the latch.
You could try cleaning it, look very dirty. Look on line for methods to clean old wood painted furniture for suggestions. |
