I just received a call (admittedly from a fan - who keeps telling me, as do many others, to ignore the trolls because I make them feel "less small" if I respond). He asked, "I went over this entire thread. It's all about forces. What in the world did/does your wonderful impromptu linking card effect have to do with forces?" Ya' got me.
People who spout silly, stupid, senseless, obviously jealousy-ridden words are jealous enough to think their stupidities, silliness, jealousies, "fit" anywhere. Including that post about my Best Ever Impromptu Linking Card Effect in a thread that's obviously and only about card forces - tells you something about the poster, doesn't it? What an unhappy person he must be. Of course, you may laugh just as the troll's wife did, but who knows? you may want to learn it and use/perform it for the rest of your magic life, as literally thousands of others did. Oh, if you don't know my linking card routine - that's why I'm updating in my upcoming book, AND FINALLY! Boy! I sure do love it when trolls give me plug opportunities!

I made up an example where, in my opinion, to shuffle (after the pass) would not be the best approach. But we have other methods to deal with each of those phases (the pick, the return and the shuffle), and to make the one that is important to the method look as fair/unsuspecting as possible. The main point of my last post is that follow the pass with a shuffle is not a rule. In some instances it can be an advantage to the method, but in other situations it may even be harmful. |

Pseudo-duplicates are my favorite, but difficult to shoehorn into most methods.
Ellusionst discussing the Arcane Playing cards: "Michaelangelo took four years to create the Sistine Chapel masterpiece... these took five."
Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes: "You know Einstein got bad grades as a kid? Well, mine are even worse!" |

If I understand what you mean by pseudo-duplicates, then you'll like some ideas from "The Secrets of So Sato".

I've been meaning to check out his stuff. I loved Bushfire Triumph.

Speaking of his book and controls, on the first trick in the book he makes a very interesting control. It's not described, but I clearly remember his performance.
Does anyone know the name? It's the control he uses on his "Magic Slap" card production. |

The Clip Steal is a technique that is related to palming.
The idea of clipping a card in this position comes from Hatton & Plate’s book Magician’s Tricks, How They’re Done, published in 1910. The technique is from books by Ed Mario and Ken Krenzel. Quote from the book. |

Yep, but it's not the clip steal I'm talking about. It' the one that gets the card to the top of the deck in the first place.
Watch the performance on the dvd. |

But the fact that you took the time to reply and back me up means everything. I was just answering the question. It's what I do; it's what works for me. And if it's what Harry Lorayne does too then I am very happy to continue being "ridiculous". Thank you. |

Two controls I use a lot are Plip Plop by Paul Harris. Love this control followed by a shuffle. Or another I love is to spread the cards and have someone touch a card in the middle. Up jog the card while still spread cards. Hold the small spread in left hand as right hand takes the up jogged card and raises it so it can be seen. Do the flicker glimpse then place it back in the spread face down upjogged again. Have them push it flush then give cards out to be shuffled. This has a very fair feel to it and the times they shuffle it to top or bottom you have a pretty amazing effect. Otherwise just cull with a quick face up spread to show mixed.

About a year ago (maybe a little more) I went to a park to perform magic to random people in there. One of the people in there I performed for was a couple sitting in a bank. The couple consisted of a more or less young black man and what seemed to be an older lady. Well, it turned out that “lady” was actually “a woman from the street” if you know what I mean. She even asked me for a few bucks to go somewhere and - 😂
Anyways - After I performed for them maybe one or two tricks, the guy was totally shocked and surprised. And yet she shouted “oh he is just putting his little finger in there”. (She also called me up on my classic force. The guy had no idea). So now you know - do not perform a little finger break for prostitues 😀
