I hope people realise that if you accuse someone of doing something illegal, they can be sued for libel (in this case)...
i've just spoken with Ryan, and he's been very upfront about what's involved...sounds very interesting...
only took me a single message and some patience, rather than sit about on here making **** up and stamping my hooves...

Hey Mitchell, with the effect where the contact they think of calls them, how much do you need to handle their phone?
Thanks

Whilst it seems like this just works with WhatsApp, that’s not the case. The primary method is to use WhatApp, which in places is very popular anyway! Ryan covers within the booklet how to also create the same effect of knowing a message sent privately as a regular text message or iMessage too. No extra software needed for this version.
Can you make that message disappear afterwards, as shown in the video clip, without needing extra software?

Not too much at all. 10-15 seconds, which you can justify easily as Ryan explains in another section of the book - pretending to write a prediction in their notes app.

Doesn't he make a message appear not disappear? Disappear would be impossible, appear is very easy to achieve with what I'm thinking. He treats it like he erased the memory of them sending it.
So you do need an app for the whatsapp version? Ahhh, yeah not to sure if I'm comfortable with this. I'd be ****ed if someone did that to me.

That wasn’t actually shown in the video. What was shown, was making a thought of message within their WhatsApp be sent without you touching their phone. This is best using an accomplice, however once again it’s not 100% needed.

The booklet covers a lot of things, including an effect that I saw Ryan perform a long time ago in which a spectator thinks of a name of someone. Moments later a call comes into their phone from that person (under your control). Whilst this is more mental magic, with a nice presentation it is without a doubt going to be very hard hitting.
I asked Ryan specifically the following question:
"Someone asked if the book includes the variation where somebody they are thinking of rings them and stops at your command?"
His answer was:
"It does not include that routine sorry."
I find it weird to see it that it is included since when I asked him, the books were presumably done and ready to ship (in fact they shipped around a week later) so I doubt the content was edited.
@MitchellK: is that routine different from one that TuneHV was asking about (and is the one I asked about).

I'll ask this question again, is your phone in play when you are touching their phone?
If so, this would make me feel really uncomfortable performing.. it feels wrong.

Hi there,
The copy I received from Ryan had that in :/ it’s possible that they were edited to include. More value for money.
The routine with the phone ringing was one that Ryan performed In a Magic Tao’s vlog from Blackpool a few years ago.

Yes, your phone is in play at the same time as you’re holding theirs. However, Ryan covers how to make this make sense. Phones are such common items nowadays. It’s a case of magicians guilt here as we will know the method has something to do with holding both phones. It’s really simple to justify and Ryan covers that. I can’t go any further in detail without exposing the method.

Nothing to do with magicians guilt, more to do with general guilt. I've known about this method for a long time, ive needed it for my job in the past, it feels invasive.
But thanks for answering.

"They are handing over an UNLOCKED phone to a performer. They are giving implied consent. "
They most definitely are not giving consent for you to be able to read all their private messages in their WhatAspp client they have sent to anyone, ever, along with any photographs that those conversations may have included.

Who says that's what happens? How do you know? Do you own a copy?

Hi,
I have been a reader of the Magic Café for years, and never posted - purely because of so many of the threads that have turned this way. I only intend to post once, just to hopefully correct a few things.
I purchased a copy of Breached, and I am thoroughly impressed with the effect, the method and the way it is documented. I find it sad that there are so many armchair lawyers in this place that think they know everything - it is really really sad.
Fact (opinion then, if the pedants are going to be pedantic) check. The specs phone is *not* being hacked, compromised or anything else illegal. They are handing over an UNLOCKED phone to a performer. They are giving implied consent. They are being told about the effect before this happens - they have the opportunity to pass/bow out.
As a performer, so long as you do not betray the information you get, and breach the trust between you and the spec, you face no legal consequences (if you misuse anything *after* the effect, then yes - but this applies to *so* many effects, not just this one - Mykes app anyone? Think of the breaches of privacy available with that!!). It is purely about responsibility. Please think sensibly, and ultimately, if you think its a risk, don't buy it, don't perform it, and if a performer asks you for your phone in the future, say no!
As for the remainder of the bickering on this thread - and again, reinforcing the reason I have not posted on here, most of the questions being asked, if replied to with any detail, would start to publicise the method - I have seen this all too often on here, and it's wrong. I have spent a *lot* of money on some very expensive effects in my time, and to see the methods/technology creeping out on here, I find abhorrent. I really wish that the owner of this forum would move threads like this, the moment they get "questionable", to a hidden/non public area.
Anyway, Back to the reality of this effect. It's great. I love it, I am already playing with ideas to integrate into other things I do (Tying this in with Promystic latest release is going to be AMAZING!).
I'm going back into lurker mode for another 7 years - I hope all the BS on here dies down - this is such a useful place.
X
Ignore this first post BS. I knew one would appear at some stage.
