I just finished reading Steve's Lecture Notes, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and wanted to spread the word to the folks at the Café. We're all familiar with Steve from his previous visits. The is also a fellow Café member.
Steve's Weapons of Mass Destruction are really top notch. Aside from the great effects that are included there is some key insight into the world of card magic. Steve is an expert in his field and these notes really are a testament to that. He isn't just spitting out a list of tricks that you can learn and perform. He clearly explains the work, technique and provides insight into the method and performance of each effect. The effects are not difficult to learn but have maximum impact. Steve's instructions are clear and well written. With a bit of practice you will be armed with some great magic. The one section dedicated to a memorized deck will require some effort---a few hours of study for a few days, but will give you a lifetime of high impact magic. You will be able to open a brand new deck of cards, and have them set and ready to go in less than a minute. I don't think you can go wrong with this material. You can email Steve at his website---cardguy.net. He can get this great stuff out to you. There is a little more info on the notes available at this Café link: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=78 Enjoy!
Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?

Guys, calling these lecture notes is doing them a bit of a disservice. The psychology included, and the ProActive Card Control take these from being just notes to being a small book on cards. Not only do the effects work, but Steven shows you why they do. I recommend them most highly, and there is even one more reason why you won't regret purchasing this book. It is the first in a series, and by the end you will have a great curriculum for becoming a card worker. He will be doing work on misdirection, and other very necessary disciplines, so don't miss out on the beginning.

Steven Youell's Weapons of Mass Destruction Lecture Notes are a great find. I've just recently received them which is why I have dug up this old thread...
65 pages make up the notes and no space is wasted; it is crammed full of valuable information and covers a wide range. I will comment on a few of the topics that have peaked my interest the most, but let me start by saying that Mr. youell does a fine job of describing sleights, methods, presentation and theory throughout. The Power of Peeks: Before teaching 6 different peeks/glimpses, Steven explains the often overlooked power of the peek. These few paragraphs alone are worth your time... The Hacker Stack: in about a dozen pages Steven gives you a stack, the tools to memorize it, and solid effects to utilize it. You can set the stack up from new deck order and it has a built in safety net, among other features. Read the WMD notes for the details, I have only offered a teaser here. I'm only scratching the surface in this review, there is much more to absorb - more sleights, more tricks and arguably most valuable, the thinking behind them. ProActive Control is another section that comes to mind. Seek out the WMD notes, they are well worth it, Alan |

The ProActive Card Control is some of the best card magic thinking I've ever read......anywhere.

WMD is excellent in my opinion. Good tricks, good dodges (plenty of excellent peeks to pique your interest), and some interesting and very helpful (to me) writing. Great value.
