Hi there everyone, I'm Ian from Seattle! I've been interested in magic since I was a little kid but never knew anything more than a few bar tricks. About six months ago, I burned out and quit my job in the tech industry and since then have been trying to find something to do that I am passionate about and I landed on magic. A dozen books and DVDs combined with a whole lot of free time have gotten me to the point where I now work tables at two nightclubs and am developing a busking routine for the daytime hours. My routines are primarily mentalism-based but I work in a decent amount of card, coin, and prop magic to keep it interesting. I've been lurking for a little while so I figured I should go ahead and introduce myself.

Welcome BaronLockhart,
I'd tell you to keep your day job and start performing professionally gradually but you!ve already taken the plunge. There is a lot of good advice here but it won't take the place of doing your work and getting the job. I'm impressed that you have already landed two jobs. Do keep in mind that being a part timer is still an option for you. Many Magicians, who have some other skills, take that route (Including some really famous ones ). Best of luck (and hard work) Ian. -Mary Mowder |

Hi,
Tacoma here. Portland Magic Jam is a great event I have attended on the area. Penguin normally does something in the December or January timeframe. Great events and even better is getting to know other local magicians. Welcome to this group as well. RMV |

Thank you Mary and RMV!
Mary, Both of my gigs combined still wouldn't be considered full time, I'm primarily living off the considerable stock grants I collected before leaving work. I'm mostly viewing this year as a sabbatical while I develop myself and try out various hobbies. I'll likely get back into tech late this year and leave the magic for the weekends but in the meantime, I'm seeing how far I can take this thing. |
