I'm currently reading Jerome Finley's "Professional Choice 1" . His thougths about pulse stop routine are brilliant. If you enjoyed Luke Jermay, you won't be dissapointed

Penguin just re released Prism by Max Maven, in hardcover.
($60.00) I was on the fence, but ordered it based on all the good reviews. Fingers crossed 252Cross

Hey as anyone seen this book Prism by Max Maven, just came out. Does anyone know the difficulty level of this book. Are this all sleights, or is this more self working mental effects. I do not do many effects like this, but would like to start, doing more.

Bernstein's books have an abundance of outstanding material. He also writes and explains things well.

Building Blocks by Luke Jermay is a modem classic. Great thinking, modern fundamentals, and a lot of ideas about how important narrative and words are..
My heart sways many directions when it comes to peek performances (my favorite impromptu book test is in this book.) However I would recommend Switchcraft as an excellent resource for b***t and peek work. It's such a practical and almost encyclopedic PDF that contains really workable stuff. I second everyone's thoughts on Prism. For an entire collection of true, workable effects, many many books pale in comparison. I think it's a modern must have in your library, as well as Banacheks Psychological Subtleties. Personally, I love Peter Turners work! But had I been introduced to that material as an intermediate mentalist without a foundation in Banachek, Kenton, and Jermays work I would have been very lost.

Having read all the parts that make up Prism separetely several years back, I can say that it will be a good read and that there is much to learn from it. Most effects presented are relatively easy, sometimes too simple imo. There will be no knockout effects here but a good, solid place to start or add.
As for something more modern, might I suggest Psychology for the Mentalist by Andy Luttrel. There is not much in the way of effects here but lots of good info that should aid in presentaion. |

I certainly agree, Barry. Grab yourself a pack (ok, a dozen) of index cards, let the dogs in and the cat out, get an extra large beverage of your choice, and prepare for an evening (ok, several dozen) learning mentalism that uses.... get ready for it... my favorite... NOTHING BUT PEN AND PAPER! I know, I know, it couldn't be cool, edgy mentalism without electronics, or being a one-effect instant download video download of something that you already read years ago, but now has great graphics and music.... hard to believe, I know.... .... but it is..... Elliot's "Switchcraft" is a no-brainer must-have. Bryn

Elliot's Switchcraft is going to go into the mentalism history books. Long after we've all gone there will be new students talking about it and digesting all the goodies inside.
