For you which marketing effect is the best "Think-of-a-card" effect which described as follows:
Magician fairly spreads a deck of cards in front of a spectator and requests the spectator to just think of a card from the spread. The magician then take out one card from the deck and later reveal the card he is holding is the card that the spectator is thinking of. |

I like the Joe Riding work behind this effect, but then again I also like the Roger Crosthwaite approach. There is interesting thinking in his Thesaurus book.

“Okay Mr. Magician, I’m thinking of a card. What is it?” says the wiseguy.
The magician, not to be embarrassed, tells the wiseguy to concentrate as the magician also concentrates as he goes through the deck and puts one card face down on the table. “Okay, what card were you thinking of?” “The four of clubs,” says the wiseguy. “Yup, yup, I got it,” says the magician smiling as he picks up the card and without showing the face, puts it back in the deck. “Oh sure you did!” says the wiseguy. “I did,” says the magician as he goes through the deck and pulls out the four of clubs and shows it to all. |

You set some interesting limits. And fail to specify others.
For me, the best Think of a card effect is the Brainwave deck. If you need to go impromptu; there are so many to choose from. |

I rarely do anything other than Paul Wilson's "Out of Your Mind". A very interesting variation on Vernon's OOSOOM. A huge improvement that comes with Paul's handling is the cards are out of your hands for the final climax. The cards are placed in the spectators hands for the final reveal and you never touch them, all this is done before you even know what the card is. Genius. There is no peeking or double lifts needed. Super strong

Yes, there are some great suggestions in past threads. Eric Anderson's work on this is excellent.

Something I've been playing around with is mnemonicosis from Tamariz. Using a mem deck and a little estimation can make for a crazy routine. Lots of fun to practice by yourself as well.

Why do this when you can use a card index?
Simpler, more powerful, and more direct! |

The great Jimmy Grippo was an expert with the card index. Think a Card is an effect where there are no shortcuts when working with a regular deck. The more you know about card magic, the more skilled you are, outs and sleights, the better off you will be. |

Mind Power Deck by John Kennedy. Very strong effect.

Info about Mind Power Deck: Spread a deck of cards face up on the table and ask a spectator to look at any card. No one could possibly know his card because he never touches or names it. You concentrate, then slowly but surely "read his mind" and name the card! You can repeat it immediately and it will become even more baffling. In fact, even if several people simultaneously look at different cards you can read each person's mind and name their card correctly every time! John Kennedy's Mind Power Deck is so eerie, so impossible, your audience will be convinced that you possess a sixth sense. Mind Power Deck can be shown as a normal deck of fifty two cards and even be handled by a spectator without them noticing anything unusual. Yet you'll be able to "read their minds" correctly every time. And there's no system to memorize because the deck does the work for you. You'll absolutely love this trick! |

Just as a warning: in this type of magic we must be careful not to fall into the trap of using the technique as an effect. One of the strongest impressions can be produced with the device that we all know that is used in mentalism (this is an open area and I can be more specific), but it must be used within a complete magic structure where spectators are offered a complete and well-built experience.
