No problem Bob. There are many more. Check out Startler where Lorayne combines his Halo with Elias' Cutting Discovery.
It is brilliant. |

Just to show I don't hate Lorayne, here is a sale of most of his books.
Personally I recommend all Apocalypse, Best of Friends 1&2 and Quantum Leaps. https://store.conjuringarts.org/category......7f235acf Mark |

I was just pointing out to the community how bad mannered it would be to talk in private about me, and Bob, who shows to be an intelligent person, perfectly understood that and stated it in a later post. Anyway, my history with Lorayne is that when I was pretty new to this forum I was amazed to see him among the subscribers and I was quite glad he was, since I knew him through some of his books. Well, the "gladness" lasted very little, just the time to recommend Card College to a person new to card magic (which I wasn't at the time) and to be assaulted with the usual names (Mr. knowledgeable, Mr. Jealous, Mr. Obvious, Troll and so on) we've all learnt to see on this Forum. I then, some time later, dared to state that another reason I was, ALONG WITH HIS BOOKS, suggesting certain authors (Giobbi, Wonder Tamariz to name a few), to interested and usually new to magic people, was that his books lack what I have learnt to consider fundamental in magic and which is theory, the "whys", proper routine construction, proper crediting and so on ... You can imagine his reaction! But honestly, I still think my suggestions are correct and on the spot. Mind you, at the same time, I also did suggest some of his books, because believe me or not, I'm not biased against him on everything. He surely did the magic community a big favour, publishing books and magazines. Unfortunately I also think the many of the "improvements" on certain tricks and routines are actually not so. I'm not waisting anyone's time with examples, but if asked I'd kindly oblige. And I'd do publicly! And I won't apologise for having my opinions! Mark |

Over the last few months, I've been using Harry's exact handling for HaLo Aces....but instead of producing aces....I use it to find 4 selections. It KILLS! I have each person name their card and then go into the cutting sequence....and just like Harry, I use the "call stop!" method for the last one. But, just last evening I had 5 spectators....I could have easily done it that way but with 5, but I thought I'd have some fun. I cut into 4 packets and turned them all over.....and the last person says..."What about me?" By now, I had gathered the deck up and had just p****d the final card and produced it from my pocket. This is really an brilliant method for finding any 4 cards you wish. Thanks Harry!

Well Done Pepka. I believe Harry mentions using HaLo Aces for 4 selections as an afterthought in one of his write-ups.
the Five card idea is Harrys HaLo Royale. The first(fifth) card is riffle f^^rced and then into HaLo Aces. Nice idea on the p"alm. |

Check out "J.K. Aitches" from my Card Corner column in the Linking Ring. It's a J.K. Hartman handling of a Jack Carpenter idea. It's in the October 2011 issue.

Because, I assume, "J.K. Aitches" uses Halo Cuts.

Hi everybody,
For some reason I didn't get an email notification of a few of these messages, so let me respond belatedly. Mike and magicfish, thanks for the info about "J. K." I own a number of Hartman books, but not Card Dodgery. I've been letting my enthusiasm carry me away, to the detriment of my bank account, so, although I'll check out the latter book, I'm unlikely to buy it. Mike, is your article available? At the moment I don't subscribe to any of the magic magazines -- though I'm sure that's in my future! Do you now whether there's a source of your article? And Harry, thanks for your many suggestions. Actually, while I'm here, if I were to subscribe to one magazine, which one would people recommend? Thanks as always, Bob |

THAT, Harry, is a great move. Magicfish posted a link demonstrating it while doing his take on Quick Mate.

HaLo Thumb Push-up. I’ve decided Harry’s original is better than my offtake.

How robust is the Halo Cut? I have tried it. It seems it is not too invisible, not easy to do under highly close and difficult conditions.
How about looking natural? Please help me with your answers. I am relying on your experience to evaluate the move. thanks . |

How Robust?
It is Invisible when done correctly. It is easy to do under close and difficult situations- once mastered (not merely ‘tried’) and it is very natural- a simple cut of the cards. One of the best utility moves in all of Cardopolis. |

My problem is, it is obvious even on the best of videos. like many of lorayne's own moves, they have to be done quickly, like a teenager
trying to rush something through. also, does the spectator really know what is going on? I don't think you should have to mention a cut is going on. It should be so slow and clean you don't have to pretend. I would rather just do something like a bottom palm and do a clean cut or whatever. to me it almost looks like a pass without cover. Watching Hobbs changed me. just because everyone is doing something does not mean it is clean natural and good. I have to make a living doing this. I can't do stuff that looks like rushed teenage moves. my style gains credibility by its utter smoothness, and simplicity. but what works for you might not work someone making a living off of magic like me. |
