I will get the Giobbi masterclass for sure. For a long time I ignored card magic or only did a few killers. I still think that card magic can easily be overdone. People no longer like card puzzles that are drawn out. They want to see magic.
But I am so thankful I finally stumbled onto card college by Giobbi. Not Lorayne, but Giobbi. The foundation you get with this makes you able to advance so quickly, to pick and choose sleights carefully from other resources. Card College really helps you to no longer need to rely on gimmicks and sets you free to work out card miracles with a borrowed deck. For this I am ever grateful to Mr. Giobbi. For example, I have used palming for a long time. His instruction on that is so much better than anything I have read. So simple and masterful. The dvds made it so clear. wallmotto, I think Giobbi had to choose carefully what he put in the 4 dvds for Card College. He did not want to have 8 dvds, so.... Also, with advances in card magic such as better shuffles and control sleights, do we need the pass? I don't need it. But you may. so it is in his masterclass. His Card College books, 5 of them, include much more than the dvds, including passes. But also remember this is Card College, not a master's degree in cards. So it seems he wanted to visually display mostly the essentials in his dvds, and include more material in his books. |

Interesting remark above - "... People no longer like card puzzles that are drawn out. They want to see magic." Don't know what you mean by "no longer." You mean that people used to like drawn out card puzzles? None of my audiences over about 80 years "used to like them." So, it's the "performer" we have to talk about - not the card effects/routines. Of course you'll find terrific stuff from Giobbi always. And, I've been told over the many decades that you'll find lots of "good stuff" in my books also. (No, no passes. Or diagonal palm shifts.) Thanks for the plug opportunity.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. There were countless resources of regular deck card magic before Card College. Where do you think Giobbi collected it all from? |

Sigh. I'm going to unsubscribe from this one (again). Can't we just celebrate two wonderful magician/teachers, Lorayne and Giobbi, and let go of the bickering? Let go, people, relax. Remember what Charles Dickens said in The Christmas Carol? -- we need to see others for what they are: fellow passengers to the grave. *That* at least we have in common. Let's use the time we have together wisely.

I have all five volumes of The Card College books and I also have the Card College 1 & 2 four disc dvd set. Is the Card College Masterclass five disc DVD set still worth getting, ie, is there enough new/different material to justify purchasing this set as well? Any info or advice would be very welcome.

I too have all 5 books and the 4 dvd set (of vol 1&2) and am waiting on reviews from someone who actually has had time to watch them and suggest that they are (or are not) simply "video companions" to the book series (ie Anything New). As I am sure that will take time and this will not sell out (not interested in collectors ed) I will wait to see a trusted review.

And I agree with BobG. Stop making comparisons between Harry and Roberto.
They are both geniuses. What on earth is wrong with having two? The two of them should have a private club..where none of us are allowed. Calm down now..Kevin... |

Actually, I like Lorayne, that was just a tongue in cheek remark done with humor. Yes, there have been card resources before, and I have many of them, but nothing like having Card College in text and dvd. It just forces you to get a sound foundation and with the dvds, you can learn them very well. At least for me.
So Mr. Lorayne, I appreciate you very much. However, this thread is about Giobbi. But I appreciate your posting a remark about "long drawn out card puzzles." At least for me, they don't want to see a jack in the box 10 minute, ace card sandwich puzzle. Last night, for example I had someone name any card. No fishing. I simply told them to beware of naming an obvious one, but did not limit them either. I pulled out the one deck I had on me and it was wrapped with a rubber band. on the face was their card. no messing, nothing. This type of thing leaves them begging, begging for more. The type of people I deal with regularly are open to a miracle, but just don't like something that seems like a puzzle in their mind. But your experience might be different. Or you might be a Merlin who can make anything look great. I am not and if something isn't extremely strong and personal, they might start playing with their phone before it is over. this is probably because I am not so good, I have to do something strong. |

He's had the disk for two days and he is reviewing it? Plus...half of it is babble.
I'll wait a month or two and wait for Endersgame's review. |

Steve's review mentioned above is great. First of all he has thoroughly absorbed Card College, so he is well qualified to review it.
He really likes the card control section and mentions why. He also mentions the value of the subtleties in this dvd set. The value of outs. He mentions that Card College is a great companion to this. Also, he does mention how good of a teacher Giobbi is. Some magicians teach things without really wanting to reveal all, others do reveal all without being a great teacher, at the top tier you have someone like Giobbi who is a phenomenal teacher. Steve Faulkner's review is fair, and mentions the filming is mostly from one angle. Yet because of the pure teaching experience, it is all good. No tricks in the dvds! It is very good that he mentions this. He also mentions he is a Giobbi fan and is biased that way, as I am. The review? I would GIVE IT A 10 OUT OF 10. That is all I need to know. Card College, in text and dvds revolutionized my magic. Yes, there have been many resources out there, but nothing motivated and changed me like Card College. It seems from this card teacher and fan of Card College, Steve Faulkner, that if you enjoyed CC, you will benefit greatly from the new Card Magic Master Class. |

On Nov 14, 2018, kShepher wrote: Actually, a lot of people probably do have it and have watched at least one or two thru. There is an option to get it as a download and many choose that. There is also an option to get the dvd set delivered and you get the downloads too (and immediately) for an extra $10. That is the route I usually go because the downloads take up much less storage on my hard drive and I have the dvd’s To skip chapters and as back-up. I am just wanting someone who has seen enough of one or two disks to verify if it is any real new material or a companion dvd. I am fine with no effects (mentioned above). I have the Daryl set of “EOCS” so I have many video demo’s of moves from another great teacher. This is the point I am looking for. I also agree, this thread should be about Mr Giobbi and his newest works.

Thanks Steve for the wonderful review. I didn't expect a bad review but loved your honesty on one or two issues which in your opinion were marginally less than perfect. Watching this has certainly helped me to make my mind up, (I love all things Giobbi)! and it seems that this set is not just an extension to the books but almost a "sequel" to the four dvd Card College set that I already have. Based on your excellent review and a few other online snippets of information, I made the decision to buy the Limited Edition here in the UK from Vanishing Inc UK at 100GBP. Once again, thanks for a great, if slightly biased but honest and very helpful review.

Bravo! Ghost~
yes it seems to be a sequel to Card College. However let us tease ourselves. Giobbi is not 100 years old. He seems to be made to carefully select and teach the things that matter most in card magic. Whether as card sleights, or as tricks using them to the utmost. So let me suggest, this Master Class might be Sequel number ONE, to Card College. With a master teacher like Giobbi, why would we not expect sequel two or three. I am so happy to live in this time. Imagine how horribly hard it would have been to be to decipher mastering card magic without Card College and Giobbi. There are many other resources. None have totally changed me, revolutionized my hesitance at advancing with cards, and moved me way beyond his material to the realm of miracles--- like Giobbi. Thank God for Giobbi. I appreciate other great teachers of all stripes, but I needed Giobbi, to be able to really analyze and to use their contributions. |
