Hi my name is Jason Bliss. For the past 2 years I have been practicing (primarily) card magic for a few hours per day, mostly subconsciously while engaged in other activities. I always carry a deck (or two) with me and work on shuffles, passes, and sleights during meetings, phone calls, basically any time I can. Initially I didn't have any particular goal (i.e. become a professional) other than developing dexterity and skill, and entertaining my friends and people I meet. However I've gone off the deep end collecting the classic books on magic by people like Hugard, Erdnase, and Annemann. Now reading everything by Juan Tamariz. I'm combining these old methods and new principles into new tricks and routines that fit my particular personality and style. Happy to join this community that I've been lurking on for over a year.

Hi! Same here. I accidentally saw a short Blaine performance on YT, a bit later I naively bought the Royal road book, and I'm down in the rabbit hole since then. I enjoy practicing with cards and reading the classics.

Welcome! Your description sounds like me almost! Same amount of time and the same interest (obsession) with the old stuff/classics. I love nothing more than digging through old conjuring books or periodicals. I love reading the history, watching performances of all kinds and especially, of course, practising. Cards, coins, rope, balls, marbles, paper ... it becomes an obsession for sure. I will not leave the house wothout cards in my hand.
This place has helped me a lot, though it bites chunks of time off me when I could've been reading more Ellis Stanyon That's the only down side!! Paul

Those who think that magic consists of doing tricks are strangers to magic. Tricks are only the crude residue from which the lifeblood of magic has been drained." - S.H. Sharpe |
