Hey there,
I had the fortunate chance to meet Mark Wilson last year at a convention. He couldn't perform anything major. He did a silk to egg effect on stage. From what I noticed, age is getting to him. So I doubt he is still performing the big lavish shows he used to. But I bet you can still run into him at some conventions. |

Lucy and I saw the Dynamic Duo at the swap meet at the Magic Castle one Saturday morning (October?) when we were in LA. They were selling away at their tables. We enjoyed a chat about the son and his career and how everyone else must be aging. (We certainly aren't. LOL)
Both looked well, spoke well, and still have that showmanship sparkle. (We all seem to be getting smaller than we used to be. Maybe the rest of the world got taller? Brian's birthday is the day after mine. Look how tall he is! OK, so there are nearly forty small years of difference. The sky is larger where Brian is too.) We did not see the Wilsons perform. I expect that they could still do grand illusion. However, there is a world of difference between performing on TV and live on stage. The zoom lens certainly changes the way things are done. Producers making commercials are often amazed that stage magicians finish their part of a commercial in just one take. Other talent just can't consistently do that. My live TV experience has only been close-up magic. The commercials were more my style as a marketing professor. However, if you talked to old pros like the Wilsons, Cousin Cliff, or David Ginn, I expect they get very gun shy as a consequence of live TV magic and want complete control of the facility when doing stage magic. They may just be playing it safe and smart. Don't forget that John Calvert is 93 and still on the road. I hope I live long enough to get to work with him! I still recommend the Wilson Courses for a serious beginner. Class never goes out of style. Bob and Lucy |

Thanks for your replies. I definitely agree with Bob. The Mark Wilson courses are great.

He still performs but I don't think he does a lot.
He performed at last years Houdini Days in Appleton Wisconsin and he will be here again this year.

Yes he still makes appearances.
at one point he was more in a booking agents role, booking the Chinese acrobats at various Six Flags type theme parks. That was like 20 years ago.

The Wilsons (all three) will be performing Aug 13 or 14, 2004 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the Invisible Lodge Kon Klave. John Calvert is also performing there. (Calvert is 93.)

At Hank Lee's convention, not this years but the year before it was Marks birthday. He joined Greg on the stage show to do the old father/son cut and restored rope and silk to egg. Then Nani assisted Greg with an illusion in which she disappeared and Mark came out of the box. It was great to see them.

The Fort Smith conclave should be a ball. I guess I am tentatively slated to be the opening act for Lee Grabel. How's that for neat?

I think he's going to be at the Houdini Days convention in Sept. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I will always perform the silk to egg the way he does. Every time I have eggs for breakfast, I think of Mark Wilson.
