I researched the Café and came up with close to nothing. A lot of 3 fly topics though.
Just looking for some comments on the book. I've heard great things about his ACR and 3 Fly routines. Could someone give me some details?

His magic still stands as some of the best of the past 10 years even though he stopped going magic. His coin act Misty Like a Dream has a 3 fly effect in it, but it extends to a much larger trick and is just brilliant. Only a portion of it is in his book, but the main act is in his video. He doesn't really have an Ambitious Card Routine (unless I missed it in the book) but he does do a routine called Hypothetical Possibilities which is a back in time routine that is great. If you are going to get his magic (which I highly reccomend), I would get his videos since there is more magic than in his book. But there is magic in his book that isn't in the videos that are pretty good too.

Is there more than one video?
If so which do you recommend?

I reccomend everything he has ever put out. Both of his videos have different things that can't really be compared. Both have great (but not easy) coin acts, they both have good card magic and other stuff. His two videos are vol 1 Let's Get Flourious and vol 2 Creating magic. He also has a book on misdirection and phsycology which is called Leading with your head, I unfortunately haven't read that yet. It's hard to say which video to get, I got things I use off of both of them, just search for them and see which one you would rather have.

The book is available from the publisher, it is still only $30 for a hard copy.
http://www.geniimagazine.com/kaufmanandco/booksandtapes.html I think that is way to cheap for the material. |

I'm a little confused. His ACR is called Hypothetical Questions and (according to Elmwood) is in his book "Unexplained Acts". From what you guys are telling me it isn't the complete routine.
Where is it (someone said Laying With Your Head and another said on a lecture tape)?

I thought that what you meant by ACR was Hypothetical Possibilities. I may have been wrong and he actually has an ACR. I don't have all of his material though so I wouldn't know.

I don't have the lecture video but in "Leading with Your Head," he does have a great ACR. One of the best I have read about. The book is on theory and presentation and he uses his ACR as a model of how to perform magic convincingly.

Yes, the one in Leading With Your Head is the same one as Hypothetical Possibilities, but it isn't described entirely in Leading With Your Head and from what I understand, it is explained in Unexplainable Acts as well.
Anyway, wherever it is taught, it is one of the best Ambitious Cards that I've seen.

There appears to be a burgeoning misconception here … so let’s nip it in the bud.
Hypothetical Possibilities is NOT an Ambitious Card type routine in any way. Kaufman clearly credits the premise (that is: the time travel of a selected card to certain positions [past, present & future] within the deck) to both Roy Walton and Larry Jennings. In this instance, it’s the time travel plot Kurtz was aiming for. Think H.G. Kurtz' HP is a good card trick; but never ambitious. |

Hypothetical Possibilities is taught in full in his video Creating Magic and in his book Unexplainable Acts. I would suggest you get Creating Magic though, your choice.
Gary Kurtz's videos will never be on DVD. Gary has quite magic and moved onto mentalism, he wants his name as far as possible from being associated with magic so I HIGHLY doubt they will ever be on dvd. Oh yeah, if you are going to start using Hypothetical Possibilities, you need a wallet for card to wallet. I use my Kaps Fire Wallet. If you don't have a wallet, you can use a cardbox by using a few simple moves. Guy Hollingworth has some moves in Drawing Room Deceptions that would help with this. |

Gary's "Leading With Your Head" is a must read for magicians. His discussion of misdirection, direction, timing, audience management etc is invaluable.
Gary is in the top two of my favorite magicians. It's too bad for magic that he's now a mentalist. Study his work. It is loaded with extremely strong and well thought out magic. Mike
