I have both of Dean's "Extreme Dean" DVDs, which I love. My only quibble is that, in my hands, which are large, purse palming a half-dollar looks cramped and suspicious.
Anybody have any alternatives for palming ] off of coins during assembly routines that don't look as cramped as the purse palm?

Funny, but in my hands 1/2's look too big. I have found using florins-same size as 20 centavo's-works well. since size does matter, perhaps using dollars is the way to go, which should allow you to find dollar ]'s easy enough.

I have considered using dollar ], but would love to stick with halfs for two reasons:
1) the price 2) many people are not as familiar with the larger dollar coins, and thus they look like "magic coins." Obviously not the reaction I want when using a gaff. It would be great to find a way to pick up the ] witgh a flat or relaxed palm.

Tom, some of us have sticky hands.
Those without the benefit usually pick up the coin, CP the ] and turn over the coin and put it back down, as if it needed to be the other way up. The reason I don't use a ] for tricks is the way it does NOT slide around as nicely as coins. BTW, a guy named Joe has a version of the trick that uses a different method, suitable for Translocation and 'Shadow Coins'.

Thomas, I know what you're talking about. The way I get around the purse palm’s awkward look it to use that same hand posture for all my magic hand gestures in the routine. (I'm talking about the Tonight Show Matrix) So when I say, “Look the coin is moving from this card to this card” my hand moves from one card to the next performing the magic and is in the awkward purse palm posture. Now when I get to the purse palm move the hand looks the same. The audience has gotten used to my hand looking way. (In Tonight Show Matrix the purse palm is only used once.) Also, for a card matrix you can’t use dollars because they’re to big to go under the cards.
The only other thing I can think of is small piece of double sided tape on a finger to lift and move the ]. |

I think you guys are talking about a front coin clip and not a purse palm. You would need a very large hand to purse palm a silver dollar. Doing from the table would be even harder.
